Description
American Traveler is seeking an RN for a Med/Surg Surgical Acute unit requiring at least 1 year of post-op nursing experience and an active IL RN license.
Details
- 13-week night shift assignment in a Surgical Acute unit within an acute care hospital setting
- 63-bed unit with 49 private and 9 observation beds
- Nurse-to-patient ratios of 4-5 on days and 5-6 on nights, potentially up to 1:6 days and 1:7 nights when needed
- Patient population includes post-op surgical, trauma, and overflow medical cases requiring dressing changes, wound care, IV therapy, pain management, drains, NGs, central lines, and TPN
- Uses EPIC EMR
- 12-hour night shifts from 1930-0730
- Every other weekend required (Saturday and Sunday)
- Rotates every other holiday
- No call or standby requirement
- Travelers float first to units with similar experience level; ICU RNs floating to general units take a team of 3 patients
- Dedicated charge RNs on each shift who do not take patient assignments, plus 24/7 house supervisor coverage
- PCTs available at a ratio of 7-10 patients per PCT on days and 10-15 on nights, assisting with vitals, accu checks, ADLs, and mobility
- Telemetry patients monitored via Phillips monitors with a central monitor tech station; bedside RNs do not read strips
- Respiratory therapy manages nebulizers; RNs manage inhalers and can place patients on CPAP
- No ventilator management required for RNs
- RNs are not required to titrate drips, though Heparin may be used as a set-rate drip
Requirements
- Active IL RN license required at time of consideration
- BLS certification (AHA) required
- Minimum 1 year of RN experience required
- Post-op patient care experience and strong critical thinking skills required
- Good bedside manner and team-oriented approach expected
Additional Information
- Provide nursing care to post-op surgical and overflow medical patients, including wound care, IV therapy, drain management, and central line care
- Unit orientation includes 2 shifts with a preceptor plus one 12-hour shift focused on EPIC and professional orientation with a unit educator
- Scrubs of any color permitted
- Local candidates accepted, with a reduced local rate applying to those within 50 miles of the facility
- Negative drug screen required for all panels as part of OSF's drug-free campus policy
