Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Med/Surg Telemetry position requiring 2 years of acute care experience and Epic proficiency at a Magnet-designated teaching hospital in Madison, WI.

Details

  • Med/Surg Telemetry unit caring for adult patients with a variety of conditions and diagnoses under the Family Medicine service
  • Geriatric patient population
  • Unit includes a locked wing for Department of Corrections (DOC) patients (0-10 at any given time), with staff accompanied by DOC officers during care
  • Day or night 12-hour shifts (0700-1930 or 1900-0730) with every other weekend rotation and holiday coverage as needed
  • Floating required as needed
  • Uses Epic EMR

Requirements

  • Active WI or compact RN license required
  • BLS certification required (AHA only)
  • 2 years of acute care RN experience within the last 3 years in the specialty required
  • Experience starting and maintaining IVs required
  • Epic EMR experience required, preferably within the past 12 months
  • Must pass a telemetry competency exam prior to starting, including strict criteria on rhythm identification and heart block interpretation
  • First-time travelers considered only with 5 years of previous inpatient med/surg experience

Additional Information

  • Provide med/surg and telemetry nursing care including cardiac monitoring, dysrhythmia interpretation and management, IV therapy, and medication administration (including heparin, insulin, and PCA)
  • Additional skills such as central line blood draws, PICC line management, feeding tube care, wound care/wound vac, and substance withdrawal management are preferred
  • Experience with previous law enforcement patient populations is a plus given the DOC patient care component
  • Must reside within 50 miles of the facility; local candidates not accepted
  • Located at University Hospital, 600 Highland Ave, Madison, WI, a Magnet-designated facility ranked as Wisconsin's #1 hospital
