Description

American Traveler is hiring a night-shift RN for a Med/Surg/PCU/Tele Neuro Trauma unit requiring 2 years of relevant acute care experience and trach/vent skills.

Details

• 28-bed Med/Surg/PCU/Tele stepdown unit with a neuro trauma focus
• Level 2 trauma acute care setting
• Patient population includes strokes, seizures, Guillain-Barre, myasthenia gravis, spinal injuries, thrombectomies, TNK/TPA post-treatment, endovascular neuro cases, AMS, dementia, and trauma ortho injuries
• Nurse-to-patient ratios of 1:4-5 days and 1:5-6 nights depending on acuity
• Nurse aide ratios of 1:9 days and 1:12 nights
• RNs required to titrate drips including Heparin, Nitro, Diltiazem, Amiodarone, 3%, and Insulin
• RT equipment on unit includes vents, trachs, CPAP, BiPAP, Vapotherm, and EtCO2 monitoring
• Central tele monitoring located off-unit
• Cerner EMR used, transitioning to Epic
• Night shift, 12-hour shifts (7p-730a)
• Self-scheduling model that opens 6 weeks in advance
• Every other Friday, Saturday, and Sunday required
• Holiday coverage typically 2 of 3 winter holidays, otherwise every other holiday
• No call or standby requirements
• Floating required to sister Med/Surg units across 6 specialties including mixed care, cardiac, general, ortho, and heme/onc
• Charge nurse takes a full team on nights and a smaller assignment on days

Requirements

• Active WI or compact RN license required
• Current BLS (AHA) and NIHSS certifications required
• Minimum 2 years of Med/Surg, PCU, or ICU experience required, with experience in this setting within the last year
• Drip titration experience required
• Trach and vent experience preferred, home trach/vent experience highly preferred
• Willingness to train on vents if not previously experienced
• 2 professional references required: 1 from a supervisor and 1 from a peer or supervisor

Additional Information

• Provide direct patient care to a neuro and trauma-focused stepdown population
• 1 shift of general orientation plus 1 shift with a preceptor
• Any solid color scrubs permitted
• All clinicians required to clock in and out at the facility
• First-time travelers are welcome to apply
• Local candidates within an 80-mile radius are accepted at a reduced rate
• Former permanent staff must have an end date at least 6 months prior to submission and require hospital approval before being considered
