Description

American Traveler is hiring an experienced ICU RN for a Level II trauma center, requiring 2+ years of ICU experience, ACLS, BLS, and NIHSS certification, and an NE or compact RN license.

Details

  • Acute care ICU setting in a Level 2 trauma center with 33 beds and an average daily census of 16
  • Patient ratios of 1:2-3 for adults
  • Common diagnoses include trauma, cardiac cases, overdose/substance abuse, sepsis, post-stent and pacemaker placement, stroke, vascular cases, renal failure, heart failure, and respiratory distress
  • RNs required to titrate drips including cardiac drips, insulin, and sedation
  • RNs required to read, interpret, and document telemetry strips using GE monitors with tele tech oversight
  • RNs manage respiratory equipment ranging from nasal cannula to ventilators for troubleshooting purposes
  • Nurse aides and healthcare support techs assist based on census and volume
  • 12-hour night shifts (1830-0630)
  • Every other weekend required, with weekends defined as Saturday and Sunday
  • Floating primarily to PCU and occasionally MedSurg at similar patient ratios (1:4 or 1:5)
  • Minimum of 2 holidays within the contract timeframe must be covered
  • Uses EPIC EMR
  • On-call shifts require arrival within 30 minutes if called back in

Requirements

  • Active RN license (NE or Compact) required, pending licenses not accepted
  • BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS certifications required and must be active, pending certifications not accepted
  • Minimum 2 years of ICU experience required
  • BSN not required for this position
  • Driver's license required at time of consideration
  • Two professional references required: one supervisor from within the last 12 months worked and one peer or supervisor from within the last 3 years worked, including dates of employment and rehire eligibility

Additional Information

  • Provide direct patient care to critically ill adult ICU patients including trauma, cardiac, and post-surgical cases
  • Must reside at least 50 miles from the facility, verified by driver's license
  • Candidates may not have been directly employed (full time, part time, or PRN) with any CommonSpirit-affiliated facility, including CHI or Dignity, within the past year
  • PRN employment through outside staffing firms will be considered
  • Artificial nails are prohibited in all patient care areas; refusal to remove will result in contract termination
  • RNs must pass a pass/fail, open-book skills exam during orientation with a minimum score of 90% or risk termination
  • Self-scheduling available for core staff, with travelers incorporated into the schedule; block scheduling not guaranteed except for weekends-only requests
  • One shift of unit-specific orientation provided
  • Up to 7 days of RTO may be requested upfront per 13-week contract; additional RTO will not be approved after submission
