Description

American Traveler is hiring a Med/Surg Tele RN for a 13-week night shift assignment requiring 2 years of experience and an active AZ or compact RN license.

Details

  • Acute care Medical/Surgical/Telemetry unit with 49 beds
  • Patient ratio of 1:5 with nurse aide support at 1:10-15
  • Common diagnoses include CHF, COVID, respiratory issues, GI conditions, diabetes, post-cath, and total joint replacement patients
  • Utilizes Cerner EMR
  • 12-hour night shifts from 7pm-7am
  • Self-scheduling used within 4-week schedules, finalized by manager
  • Every other weekend required (2 weekends per 4-week schedule)
  • No call or standby requirements
  • Floating required to East Campus and possibly PCU if qualified, with travelers first to float
  • Tele/Monitor techs present on unit; RNs required to interpret strips and sign at least once per shift
  • Respiratory equipment used includes BiPap, CPAP, and breathing treatments
  • Diltiazem/Cardizem drips administered at set rate; RNs not required to titrate drips

Requirements

  • Active AZ or compact RN license required
  • BLS and ACLS certifications required
  • Minimum 2 years of RN experience required
  • Experience reading basic tele strips required
  • Some experience with CVA and TIA preferred
  • Total joint replacement experience preferred
  • Cerner EMR experience recommended due to limited orientation
  • Must pass dysrhythmia exam within two attempts prior to signing contract
  • Must reside at least 50 miles from the facility
  • Copy of driver's license required for consideration
  • Two professional references required: one supervisor from within the last 12 months worked and one peer or supervisor from within the last 3 years worked, including employment dates and rehire eligibility

Additional Information

  • Provide medical/surgical and telemetry nursing care to a diverse patient population
  • Both charge nurse and house supervisor support available on unit
  • One shift of unit-specific orientation provided
  • Navy blue scrub color required
  • Holiday coverage required for Christmas, New Year's, and Thanksgiving, typically working 2 days and an eve or 2 eves and a day
  • Must pass a pass/fail sterile technique test for Foley catheter insertion and central line dressing changes on first day of orientation
  • Failure of dysrhythmia or sterile technique exams after two attempts results in ineligibility with this health system's Arizona and Sacramento facilities for 6 months
  • Candidates may not have been directly employed (full time, part time, or PRN) with this health system, including CHI and/or Dignity affiliated facilities, within the past year
  • Cancellation policy allows 4 shifts per contract, or 3 shifts if the contract is under 13 weeks
