Description
American Traveler is hiring a Med/Surg RN for a Level I trauma center's Adult Medical Specialty Unit, requiring an active IL RN license and central line, tracheostomy, and chest tube experience.
Details
- Acute care Adult Medical Specialty Unit (AMSU) within a Level I trauma center
- 56-bed unit with private and semi-private rooms
- Nurse to patient ratio of 1:4-5 on days (0700-2300) and 1:5-6 on nights (2300-0730)
- Common diagnoses include cellulitis, sepsis, dehydration, electrolyte imbalance, syncope, anemia, uncontrolled diabetes, acute respiratory failure, liver failure, kidney failure, and behavioral health/addictions
- RNs are not required to titrate drips, though common titratable drips include Heparin and Lasix
- Free charge RN available on each shift and does not take a patient assignment
- PCTs support the unit at a 1:8-10 ratio, assisting with vital signs, accuchecks, bladder scans, and ADLs
- RT equipment includes Bipap/Cpap for sleep apnea, inhaler administration, and suctioning
- House-wide telemetry monitored remotely with strips viewable on pack or computer using Phillips monitors
- Schedule consists of 3x12-hour day shifts (7:00 AM-7:30 PM)
- Every other weekend required (Sat/Sun for days, Fri/Sat for nights)
- Floating required on a rotation basis to other acute care gen-med areas including nephrology, neuro, ortho, and oncology
- No call or standby requirement
- Uses EPIC EMR
Requirements
- Active IL RN license required at time of consideration
- BLS (AHA) certification required
- Minimum 1 year of RN experience required
- Experience with central lines, tracheostomies, and chest tubes required
- EPIC experience preferred
- Prior travel experience on a Med/Surg floor preferred, though candidates with Level I trauma center experience and EPIC experience will be considered without travel experience
- Negative drug screen required for all panels
Additional Information
- Provide direct patient care on a busy acute care Med/Surg unit within a Level I trauma facility
- Unit-specific orientation consists of 2-3 shifts in addition to 12 hours of general orientation
- Holiday coverage requirements vary
- Dress code allows any color of professional scrubs, with no visible tattoos and no visible piercings except ears
- COVID vaccination is not required for consideration
