Description
American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Med/Surg Ortho unit requiring at least 1 year of med/surg experience and EPIC charting proficiency.
Details
- Medical Surgical Ortho unit in a Level I Trauma teaching hospital
- Patient ratios of 1:4-5 across all shifts
- Night shift, 3x12 hours (19:00-7:30)
- Every other weekend required
- Floating within service line to meet facility needs
- No on-call requirements
- Cares for patients with knees, hips, total joints, hand, shoulder, foot and ankle injuries, trauma, oncology, and complex ortho cases
- High turnover, fast-paced environment with patients out of bed within 4 hours post-op
Requirements
- Active MO or compact RN license required
- BLS and ACLS certifications required
- BSN preferred
- Minimum 1 year of RN experience required
- Med/Surg experience required
- Ortho and Level I Trauma experience preferred (2+ years for trauma)
- EPIC charting experience required
- IV start and phlebotomy skills required
- Cardiac monitoring and dysrhythmia interpretation/management skills required
- Experience with drains, ice packs, PCA, and epidural management preferred
- Experience with trapeze, walker, traction, lifts, and external fixation preferred
- Must pass Relias EKG exam covering dysrhythmia interpretation and management
Additional Information
- Provide post-surgical ortho care including patient education, mobility assistance, and specialized precautions
- Navy scrub color required
- EPIC charting system used facility-wide
- First-time travelers accepted only with EPIC experience
- Must reside outside a 75-mile radius from the facility; no local candidates accepted
- RTO limited to no more than 7 days per 13-week contract, with no RTO permitted during the first week
- Returning permanent BJC employees must wait 1 year before returning as a traveler
- Standard travelers may stay up to 18 months, followed by a required 3-month break in service
- Facial hair must comply with fit-testing standards or be shaved for respirator compliance
