Description

American Traveler is hiring a Med/Surg Float RN for an ED Holding support position requiring 2+ years of MS/Tele experience and prior travel nursing experience.

Details

  • ED Holding unit located within the Emergency Department housing adult medical/surgical patients awaiting inpatient beds
  • May include PCU level patients requiring higher acuity care
  • Float requirement to ED and MedSurg areas as needed in addition to MS/Tele caseload
  • Night shift, 3x12 hours (18:45-7:15), working either 36 or 48 hours per week
  • Target ratios of 1:6 for MS/Tele patients or 1:4 for PCU level patients
  • Every other weekend required
  • Uses Pyxis, Epic, and SBAR communication systems
  • Standard unit equipment including cardiac monitors and IV pumps
  • Manager-based scheduling
  • 12-hour unit orientation

Requirements

  • Active NC or compact RN license (pending acceptable at submission)
  • BLS and ACLS certification required; NIHSS and CPI preferred
  • Minimum 2 years of relevant RN experience required
  • Prior travel nursing experience required
  • Skills required include interpretation and management of dysrhythmias, telemetry monitoring, colostomy and feeding tube care, blood product administration, PICC line management, chest tube management, CPAP/BiPAP, high flow nasal cannula, ABG interpretation, and tracheostomy management
  • Preferred skills include NIHSS, IV insulin protocols, pre/post hemodialysis management, central line care, CVA, neuro surgery care, ortho trauma, and wound care/wound vac
  • Epic charting experience preferred
  • Must pass EKG testing prior to start

Additional Information

  • Care for adult medical/surgical patients, including high acuity cases within the ED Holding area
  • May be assigned to Storm Team or Hurricane Team and required to report during catastrophic events or mass casualty situations
  • Navy scrubs required
  • Must complete pre-start and annual online learning modules (approximately 8-10 hours for acute care roles)
  • Weekly orientation schedule
  • Must work 2 of the 3 major holidays
  • No RTO permitted during the first week of assignment; up to 7 days RTO may be auto-approved thereafter, excluding holidays
  • Additional RTO cannot be requested after signing
  • Travel pairs allowed if placed on different units with separate transportation
  • Local candidates accepted at a lower rate within 50 miles of the facility
  • Former Novant Health or New Hanover employees (perm/PRN/EP) must wait 12 months before applying and disclose prior employment details
  • Current travel per diem clinicians must choose between travel or per diem status, not both
