Description

American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for a Surgical ICU position requiring a VA or compact license and 2+ years of specialized surgical/trauma ICU experience.

Details

  • Night shift schedule, 3x12 hours (7:00 PM-7:00 AM)
  • SICU unit within a Level II Trauma Center, short-term acute care hospital
  • Patient population includes trauma, CV surgery (TAVR, CABG), neurosurgery, and complex surgical patients
  • Typical diagnoses include acute ventilator need, COVID+ with high O2 demand, DKA, severe sepsis, unstable GI bleed, open heart recovery, and multisystem organ failure
  • Patient ratios of 1:2-3, adjusted for skill level and acuity
  • Every other weekend required
  • No on-call requirement
  • Floating required within scope to other units based on facility needs, including non-ICU units at varying ratios
  • Epic charting system used

Requirements

  • Active VA or compact RN license required
  • BLS and ACLS certification required
  • NIHSS certification required
  • CSC and TNCC certifications preferred
  • Minimum 2 years of recent SICU or related critical care experience required
  • Teaching hospital experience required
  • Community hospital experience required
  • Trauma Level II experience required
  • Strong cardiovascular experience strongly preferred
  • Skilled in arterial line management, blood product administration, central line and PICC line care
  • Experience with ventilator management and interpretation of ABGs required
  • Experience titrating cardiac and vasoactive drips
  • Experience with CVVHD/CRRT and IV insulin protocols
  • Experience with interpretation and management of dysrhythmias
  • Experience with Impella, IABP, and Swan Ganz monitoring preferred
  • Experience with ICP monitoring preferred
  • Experience with Prismaflex/Prismamax preferred

Additional Information

  • Provide direct care to critically ill surgical, trauma, and cardiovascular patients in a fast-paced ICU setting
  • Manage complex cases involving multisystem organ dysfunction and advanced life support interventions
  • Navy blue scrubs required
  • First-time travelers accepted
  • Local candidates accepted at the same pay rate with no radius restriction
  • RTO approvals at manager's discretion
  • Travel pairs may be considered but same schedules cannot be guaranteed
  • Returning travelers must have a 1-year separation from the facility before reapplying
  • Up to 8 hours of pre-start orientation modules required within 1 week of signing
