Description
American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for a Stroke/Neuro Progressive Care Unit position requiring active VA or compact RN licensure and prior Neuro PCU experience.
Details
- Work in a telemetry PCU specializing in hospitalist medicine, stroke, and neurology patients on a Joint Commission certified primary stroke center unit
- Night shift schedule: 3x12 hours, 6:45pm-7:15am, with 4x12 available by request
- Typical patient ratio of 1:5 with a staffing goal of 1:4
- Weekend requirement of every other weekend or 6 weekend shifts within a 6-week scheduling block
- Manages IV drips including Cardizem, Heparin, Insulin, low-dose dopamine/dobutamine, Amiodarone, Nitro, Bumex, Lasix, Lidocaine, and Ketamine (no titration)
- Remote telemetry monitoring with tele sitting used to increase Patient Care Tech coverage
- Floating required within skillset across PCU, IMC, and stepdown units
- Facility may call off up to 1 shift per 2-week period
- Required to work one holiday per 13-week contract
Requirements
- Active Virginia State or Compact RN license required (single-state license from non-compact state accepted only if pending)
- Current BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS certifications required
- Minimum 1 year of RN experience, preferably at a 250+ bed or larger facility
- Prior Neuro PCU experience required
- EPIC charting experience required
- Skilled in cardiac monitoring, emergency response, and dysrhythmia interpretation/management
- Experience with IV therapy, phlebotomy, blood product administration, and central/peripheral line care
- Respiratory support skills including nasal cannula, oxygen administration, and non-invasive airway management
- Knowledge of isolation precautions and telemetry settings across PCU, IMC, and stepdown units
Additional Information
- Provide telemetry-based nursing care to hospitalist medicine, stroke, and neuroscience patients at a Level I Trauma Center and Magnet-designated teaching hospital
- First-time travelers will be considered, though prior travel experience is preferred
- Local candidates accepted; radius requirements apply based on distance from the facility and may affect bill rate and extension eligibility
- Previous employees must have a minimum one-year separation before returning as a traveler, with additional restrictions for those who have worked 365 days on assignment
- All RTO requests must be submitted upfront with the application
