Description

American Traveler is hiring a Registered Nurse for a Surgical Progressive Care Unit position requiring ventilator care experience and an active VA or compact RN license.

Details

• Surgical PCU functioning as a stepdown from the General Surgical ICU with bariatric specialty and backup to the trauma unit
• Night shift, 4x12 hours, 6:45pm-7:15am
• Typical staffing ratio of 1:5 with a goal of 1:4
• 2 beds designated for chronic trach patients (non-ICU level)
• EPIC EMR experience required
• Weekend requirement of every other weekend or 6 weekend shifts in a 6-week scheduling block
• Must work at least one holiday per 13-week contract
• Floating required within skillset across PCU, DOU, IMC, and stepdown units
• Remote telemetry monitoring with tele sitting used to increase Patient Care Tech coverage

Requirements

• Active Virginia State or Compact RN license required, unless candidate holds a single-state license from a non-compact state which may be accepted pending
• Current BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS certifications required
• Minimum 1 year of RN experience required
• Prior charge experience preferred
• Experience with cardiac monitoring, dysrhythmia interpretation and management, and emergency response
• Skilled in IV therapy, phlebotomy, blood product administration, and central/peripheral line care
• Ventilator care experience for chronic trach patients required
• Experience managing cardiac drips (non-titrating) including Cardizem, Heparin, Insulin, Amiodarone, Nitro, Bumex, Lasix, Lidocaine, and Ketamine
• Respiratory support experience including nasal cannula, oxygen administration, CPAP, and BiPAP
• Knowledge of isolation precautions and PPE protocols

Additional Information

• Work in a Level I Trauma Center, Magnet-designated, teaching hospital affiliated with Virginia Tech Carilion School of Medicine
• Responsibilities include activating Rapid Response and Code teams as needed
• Uses specialized equipment such as ortho equipment, chest tubes, surgical drains, trach tools, endo tools, PICC lines, and MML
• First-time travelers are welcome to apply
• Local candidates may be accepted depending on radius rule criteria
• Previous employees (per diem or permanent) must have a minimum one-year gap before returning as a traveler
• Travelers who have worked 365 days on assignment are not eligible to return, with exceptions reviewed case-by-case by facility leadership
