Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Surgical PCU night shift position requiring ventilator care experience and an active VA or Compact RN license.

Details

  • Surgical PCU serving as stepdown from the General Surgical ICU with bariatric specialty and backup to the trauma unit
  • Two beds designated for chronic trach patients requiring CPAP and BiPAP support
  • Typical patient ratio of 1:5 with a staffing goal of 1:4
  • Night shift schedule of 4x12s, 6:45p-7:15a
  • Weekend requirement of every other weekend or 6 weekend shifts in a 6-week scheduling block
  • Must work one holiday per 13-week contract, with two holidays required over winter holiday periods (Thanksgiving, Christmas/Christmas Eve, NYE/New Year's)
  • Remote telemetry monitoring with tele sitting used to increase Patient Care Tech coverage
  • Required to float within skillset across PCU, DOU, IMC, and stepdown units
  • EPIC charting experience required

Requirements

  • Active VA State or Compact RN license required in hand, unless holding a pending single-state license from a non-compact state
  • Current BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS certifications required
  • Minimum 1 year of RN experience required
  • Charge nurse experience preferred
  • Cardiac monitoring, emergency response, and dysrhythmia interpretation/management skills required
  • IV therapy, phlebotomy, blood product administration, and central/peripheral line care experience required
  • Ventilator care experience for chronic trach patients required
  • Experience managing cardiac drips without titration required
  • Respiratory support skills including nasal cannula, oxygen administration, CPAP, and BiPAP required
  • Experience with Rapid Response and Code team activation required
  • Isolation precautions and PPE knowledge required
  • Two professional references required for consideration

Additional Information

  • Provide surgical stepdown-level care including cardiac monitoring, respiratory support, and management of complex medication drips
  • Utilize specialized equipment including ortho equipment, chest tubes, surgical drains, trach care tools, endo tools, PICC lines, and MML
  • Work within a Level I Trauma Center that is Magnet-designated and affiliated with a teaching hospital
  • Facility may call off up to 1 shift per 2-week period
  • First-time travelers are welcome to apply
  • Local candidates may be accepted, though radius rules apply to bill rate and assignment eligibility depending on distance from the facility
  • Previous employees (per diem or permanent) must have a minimum one-year gap before returning as a traveler
  • Travelers who have worked 365 days on assignment are not eligible to return, with exceptions reviewed case by case
  • All RTO, block, and special scheduling requests must be submitted upfront
