Description
American Traveler is hiring an experienced Surgical PCU/Stepdown RN with ventilator experience for a night shift assignment at a Level I Trauma teaching hospital requiring an active VA or Compact RN license.
Details
- Surgical PCU/Stepdown unit functioning as stepdown from the General Surgical ICU with bariatric specialty and backup to the trauma unit
- Night shift, 4x12 hours, 6:45pm-7:15am
- Typical patient ratio of 1:5 with a staffing goal of 1:4
- Unit includes 2 beds for chronic trach patients (non-ICU level)
- Weekend requirement of every other weekend or 6 weekend shifts within a 6-week scheduling block
- Must work one holiday per 13-week contract
- Required to float within skillset across PCU, DOU, IMC, and stepdown units
- Remote telemetry monitoring with tele sitting used to increase Patient Care Tech coverage
- EPIC charting experience required
Requirements
- Active VA State or Compact RN license required (pending license accepted only for candidates from non-compact states)
- Current BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS certifications required
- Minimum 1 year of RN experience required
- Prior charge experience preferred
- Ventilator care experience for chronic trach patients required
- Skilled in cardiac monitoring, dysrhythmia interpretation and management, and Rapid Response/Code team activation
- Experienced in IV therapy, phlebotomy, blood product administration, and central/peripheral line care
- Experienced managing cardiac drips (Cardizem, Heparin, Insulin, low-dose dopamine/dobutamine, Amiodarone, Nitro, Bumex, Lasix, Lidocaine, Ketamine) without titration
- Skilled in respiratory support including nasal cannula, oxygen administration, CPAP, and BiPAP
- Experience with isolation precautions and PPE
Additional Information
- Provide patient care using ortho equipment, chest tubes, surgical drains, trach care, endo tools, PICC lines, and MML
- Work within a Level I Trauma Center, Magnet-designated, teaching hospital affiliated with Virginia Tech Carilion School of Medicine
- Facility may call off up to 1 shift per 2-week period
- First-time travelers are welcome to apply
- Local candidates accepted; radius rules apply based on distance from the facility, with reduced eligibility or bill rate for those living within 100 miles
- Previous employees (per diem or permanent) must have a break of at least one year before returning as a traveler
- Travelers who have worked 365 days on assignment are not eligible to return, regardless of separation period
