Description

American Traveler is hiring an RN for a Labor & Delivery position requiring high-risk antepartum and L&D experience and a VA or compact RN license.

Details

  • Labor and Delivery unit, a 24-bed unit caring for low and high-risk pregnant patients from antepartum through delivery
  • Referring center for high-risk pregnancies from Southwest VA within an approximate 150-mile radius, accepting patients over 20 weeks gestation
  • Unit includes a 3-bed triage area, 2 ORs, and 2 post-anesthesia beds, averaging 250 deliveries and 350 triage patients per month
  • Staffing ratios: 1:1-2 laboring patients, 1:3-4 antepartum, 1:3 triage, 2:1 OBOR, and 1:1-2 OB PACU patients
  • Skill mix includes Clinical Team Leaders, RNs, and 4 NAs
  • Day shift schedule, 3x12 hours, 6:45am-7:15pm
  • Weekend requirement of every other weekend or 6 weekend shifts per 6-week schedule block
  • On-call required, variable amount up to 24 hours per 6-week schedule block
  • Must work one holiday per 13-week contract, with 2 holidays required during winter holiday period

Requirements

  • Active VA State or Compact RN license required, unless candidate holds a single-state license from a non-compact state
  • BLS certification required
  • Minimum 2 years of experience required
  • Experience with high-risk antepartum and labor/delivery care required
  • Experience with electronic charting systems required
  • Skilled in sterile speculum exams, NST, reflex/edema/clonus checks, sterile vaginal exams, and obstetrical triage
  • Experience with external and internal fetal monitoring and IUPC placement/calibration
  • Skilled in recognition and treatment of abnormal fetal heart rate patterns
  • Experience administering antihypertensives, insulin drips, magnesium sulfate, pitocin, prostaglandins, and terbutaline

Additional Information

  • Provide nursing care to antepartum, intrapartum, and OBOR patients, with combined or separate scrubbing/circulating competency preferred
  • Assist with high-risk and vaginal deliveries and C-section circulation
  • Manage postpartum care including fundus/lochia/perineum assessment and cesarean section recovery
  • Support pain management including epidural anesthesia and PCA use
  • First-time travelers are welcome to apply
  • Local candidates are not accepted; candidates residing within 100 miles of the facility (per driver's license address) are considered local
  • Exceptions apply for Inpatient RNs at Roanoke Memorial and Roanoke Community Hospitals living 50-99.9 miles or under 50 miles away, limited to one 13-week assignment with no extension eligibility
  • Previous employees (per diem or permanent) must have a minimum one-year gap before returning as a traveler
  • Travelers who have worked 365 days on assignment are not eligible to return, regardless of separation period, with case-by-case exceptions reviewed by facility leadership
