Description
American Traveler is hiring a Labor & Delivery RN for a night shift break nurse role requiring 2+ years of L&D experience and Epic proficiency in a high-acuity Birth Center.
Details
- Birth Center unit within a Level II Trauma Center with Level IV NICU
- 34 L&D beds including 15 labor rooms, 12 antepartum, 4 OB ED, and 3 OR spaces
- 18-bed Postpartum unit
- High acuity patient population including hypertension, Mg administration, C-sections (33% rate), preterm labor, insulin drips, vaginal deliveries, epidurals, inductions, PROM, multiple births, and postpartum hemorrhage
- Up to 300 deliveries per month
- Patient ratios per AWHONN guidelines: 1:1 active labor, 1:2 non-active laboring, 1:2-3 antepartum depending on acuity
- This is a scheduled Break Nurse position, working 4x12-hour shifts for 48 hours per week
- Shift schedule: 10-hour nights (1900-0730)
- Weekend rotation required every other weekend, subject to variability based on need
- No mandatory on-call requirements, though may pick up available open shifts
- Floating required to Antepartum (within L&D) and occasionally Postpartum (4th floor), within scope and experience
- Uses Epic EMR, Alaris CareFusion IV pumps, Pyxis medication dispensing, Centricity/Qx fetal surveillance monitors, CAD Solaris epidural pumps, Panda Warmers, and Coviden SCDs
Requirements
- Active WA or compact RN license
- Current certifications: BLS, NRP, and Intermediate Fetal Heart Monitoring (AWHONN)
- Minimum 2 years of L&D RN experience required, with previous travel experience preferred; 5+ years strongly preferred
- High acuity experience including labor management, delivery of high-risk OB patients, OB triage, OR circulation, cervical checks, and fetal monitoring strip interpretation
- Ability to serve as second set of hands for newborn recovery and APGAR scoring as needed
- Epic EMR experience required
Additional Information
- Provide comprehensive labor and delivery nursing care including triage, labor management, and delivery support for high-risk OB patients
- Support includes CNA staff, LPN scrub techs (NRP certified), receptionist/HUC, floating charge nurse, resource RN (pending staffing), and 24/7 RT and Laborist coverage
- NICU RTs attend high-risk deliveries and respond when fetal monitoring strips indicate concern
- Anesthesia coverage is scheduled during day shift and shared after 1700
- Orientation includes hospital orientation plus 2 weeks on unit and 1 week of independent practice, beginning 3 weeks before residents start on the floor
- Holiday coverage expected on a fair and equitable basis
- RTO requests must be submitted prior to contract approval; incidental days off require discussion with CANM or Manager
- Schedules are built in 6-week increments and released 2 weeks prior to the start of each schedule cycle; block schedules cannot be guaranteed
- Scrubs are facility-provided and must not be worn outside the facility
