Description

American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for a Surgical ICU position at a busy Level 1 Trauma center requiring 2+ years of ICU experience and TX or compact RN licensure.

Details

• Level 1 Trauma Surgical ICU (SICU) with 12 beds
• Nurse:patient ratios of 1:2 or 1:3 depending on acuity and downgrade status
• Patient population includes liver/kidney transplant, vascular surgeries, ENT cancer surgeries, complex abdominal surgeries, and deep tissue flaps
• EPIC EMR experience required
• Night shift schedule, 7p-7a, every other weekend required
• Weekend requirement of 4-6 shifts within a 6-week period
• Standby requirement only in rare low-census situations, occurring roughly once per year
• Floating required to other ICUs within the hospital based on skill set, with travelers first to float
• No self-scheduling; shifts assigned based on unit needs

Requirements

• Active TX or compact RN license required
• BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS certifications required
• Minimum 2 years of RN experience required, 3+ years and prior travel experience preferred
• Experience with CRRT, hemodynamic monitoring, chest tubes, ventilators, and various drains/surgical sites required
• Experience titrating drips such as vasopressin, epinephrine, levophed, heparin, dobutamine, dopamine, versed, hydromorphone, fentanyl, ketamine, nimbex, esmolol, and cardene
• Strong critical thinking and clear communication skills for early recognition of patient condition changes
• Ability to read own telemetry strips (Phillips monitors)
• Prior experience in a busy, high-acuity hospital setting preferred

Additional Information

• Provide critical care nursing to complex surgical ICU patients including transplant, vascular, ENT, and abdominal surgery cases
• Charge nurse present each shift, typically taking a full patient assignment depending on staffing
• Intensivist and APP coverage on the unit 24/7, with respiratory therapy also available around the clock
• Patient care techs available intermittently based on census, assisting with ADLs, blood glucose checks, and transport
• 2 shifts of unit-specific orientation provided
• Dress code includes teal scrub bottoms with a black or coordinating printed scrub top; no fleece jackets, and nail polish restrictions apply
• Daily and monthly parking options available at additional cost
• First-time travelers may be considered if they meet experience requirements
• Candidates must not have been directly employed by any CommonSpirit-affiliated facility within the past year
