Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Med/Surg position on night shift requiring 2+ years of surgical unit experience and a VA or compact RN license.

Details

• Fast-paced inpatient surgical unit caring for pediatric (age 12+) and adult surgical patients
• Patient population includes general, abdominal, urological, orthopedic, spine, bariatric surgery, hysterectomy, and mastectomy cases
• Typical patient ratio of 1:6
• Night shift, 3x12-hour shifts (19:00-07:00)
• Every other weekend required
• Floating to other units expected at times
• Meditech charting system preferred experience

Requirements

• Active RN license (VA or Compact) required
• BLS certification required
• Minimum 2 years of RN experience required
• Previous surgical unit experience required
• Community hospital experience preferred
• Previous charge nurse experience preferred
• Skills in IV therapy, phlebotomy, central/peripheral line care, and PICC line management
• Experience with chest tubes, oxygen administration, and respiratory care preferred
• Experience with wound care/wound vac and isolation precautions/PPE
• Cardiac monitoring, telemetry, and rapid response/code team experience preferred
• Experience with total joint replacement and ortho trauma care preferred

Additional Information

• Provide direct patient care for a variety of surgical cases including orthopedic, cardiovascular, and general surgery patients
• Block scheduling cannot be guaranteed, though efforts will be made to group shifts when possible
• Zero-tolerance drug policy applies, including no exceptions for medical marijuana cards
• Fit testing required, and candidates must be clean-shaven unless a medical exemption is approved in advance
• Holiday coverage required based on number of holidays falling within the assignment
• Local candidates within 50 miles of the facility are not accepted
• Candidates who previously worked in a permanent role at the facility within the last 24 months are not eligible
