Description
American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for a Progressive Care Unit (PCU) position requiring NE or compact licensure and prior stepdown/telemetry nursing experience.
Details
- Acute care Progressive Care Unit (Stepdown) in a Level 2 trauma hospital
- 40-bed unit with average daily census of 24
- Patient ratios of 1:4-5 on both days and nights
- Cares for adult cardiac med/surg, dialysis, cancer, vascular, sepsis, respiratory, stroke, post-stent, post-pacer, and renal failure patients
- RNs required to titrate drips including Heparin, Nitro, Dopamine, Cardizem, Amiodarone, and insulin
- Must be competent with arterial lines
- Charge nurse present each shift and takes a patient assignment
- Patient care techs on unit at a 1:12 ratio
- High-flow respiratory equipment used; RNs troubleshoot as needed
- RNs must read and interpret their own telemetry strips
- 12-hour night shifts, 0630-1830 and 1830-0630
- Every other weekend required
- Floating required to Med/Surg or ICU to take PCU-acuity patients
- Uses EPIC EMR
- On-call staff must arrive within 30 minutes if called back in
Requirements
- Active RN license (NE state or Compact/NLC) required, pending licenses not accepted
- Current BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS certifications required, pending certifications not accepted
- Minimum 2 years of RN experience required
- Prior stepdown/PCU or telemetry experience required
- Competency in arterial line management required
- EPIC EMR experience preferred
- Two professional references required: one supervisor from within the last 12 months worked and one peer or supervisor from within the last 3 years, including employment dates and rehire eligibility
- Copy of driver's license required for consideration
- Artificial nails prohibited in all patient care areas
Additional Information
- Provide direct patient care within a fast-paced stepdown unit serving diverse patient populations, including Hispanic and Somali communities
- Participate in a pass/fail open-book skills exam during orientation, requiring a 90% score to continue in the assignment
- One day of unit-specific orientation provided
- Navy blue scrubs required
- Unit utilizes overhead and portable lifts, vein finders, and bladder scanners
- Focus on patient experience, responsiveness, and clear communication regarding medications
- Success on this unit requires flexibility, adaptability, strong communication, and teamwork
- Minimum of 2 holidays within the contract period must be covered
- Requested time off (RTO) limited to 7 or fewer days per 13-week contract, with no additional RTO approved after submission
- Candidates must reside at least 50 miles from the facility, verified via driver's license
- Candidates may not have been directly employed (full time, part time, or PRN) with any CommonSpirit-affiliated facility, including CHI or Dignity, within the past year
- Hospital may cancel up to 4 shifts per 13-week assignment
