Description

American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for a Med/Surg Trauma position at a Level I Trauma Center requiring 5+ years of experience and BLS/ACLS certification.

Details

  • 13-week contract with 4x12-hour day shifts (7:00-19:30)
  • Option to sign for 36 or 48 hours per week
  • Medical Surgical unit with a Level I Trauma focus
  • Patient ratios of 1:4-6
  • Patients admitted from ED, OR, or ICU
  • Unit serves geriatric trauma (55+), trauma victims, and acute care surgery cases
  • Uses lifts, restraints, wound vacs, traction, and external fixators
  • Required to work every other weekend
  • No on-call responsibilities
  • Floating required within scope of practice and service line
  • Uses Epic charting system

Requirements

  • Active RN license (MO or compact) required
  • BLS and ACLS certifications required
  • Minimum 5 years of RN experience required
  • Level I and Level II Trauma experience required
  • Epic charting experience required
  • Must pass Relias EKG exam covering interpretation and management of dysrhythmias
  • Skilled in blood product administration, peripheral line care, phlebotomy, and IV starts
  • Experience with insulin administration and PCA management required
  • Experience with spinal cord injury, TBI, and ortho trauma required
  • Experience with peripheral nerve block catheters and total joint replacements required
  • Experience managing surgical drains and chest tubes (Emerson/Pleur-evac) required
  • Experience with CPAP/BiPAP, HFNC, nasal cannula, and oxygen delivery devices required
  • Wound care and wound vac experience required
  • Isolation precautions and PPE knowledge required
  • BSN, CPI, NIHSS, and TNCC certifications preferred
  • Prior charge nurse experience preferred
  • Teaching hospital experience preferred

Additional Information

  • Provide direct patient care to trauma, geriatric trauma, and acute care surgery patients in a Magnet-designated, Level I Trauma teaching hospital
  • Navy blue scrubs required
  • Must be able to accommodate facial hair standards for respirator fit testing
  • No more than 7 days of RTO allowed per 13-week contract, with no RTO permitted during the first week of the assignment
  • Missed shifts should be made up as soon as possible
  • Local candidates not accepted; must reside outside a 75-mile radius
  • Prior travel experience required
  • Permanent employees must wait 1 year before returning to any BJC facility as a traveler
  • Standard travelers may work up to 18 months before requiring a 3-month break in service
