Description

American Traveler is hiring a Step Down RN for a night-shift position requiring SD/PCU ratio experience, ventilator management skills, and Epic proficiency.

Details

  • Step Down unit within a hospital setting
  • Night shift, 4x12 hours (19:00-7:30)
  • 13 or 18-week contract options available
  • Targeted patient ratios of 1:4, with potential to flex up to 1:5-6
  • Patient population includes COPD, CHF, Pneumonia, Flu, Sepsis, DKA, and Post-COVID cases
  • Cares for trach, vent, BiPAP, and high-oxygen requirement patients with Respiratory Therapist support
  • Manages insulin drips, heparin, Cardizem, and other sporadic drips
  • No orally intubated patients on unit
  • Unit is trialing a team nursing model pairing two nurses with a PCT to share patient care duties
  • Epic EMR experience required
  • Must be available every other weekend and every other holiday
  • First to float at facility discretion, potentially to main, south, or north campus locations or to the ED for boarders

Requirements

  • Active RN license (Ohio or Compact) required
  • BLS and ACLS certifications required
  • Minimum 1.5 years of relevant nursing experience required
  • SD or PCU experience with documented 1:5 ratio required in work history; ICU experience does not qualify
  • Ventilator experience required
  • Epic charting experience required
  • Must be able to read and interpret EKG/dysrhythmia strips
  • Level 1 or 2 trauma experience preferred
  • Previous charge experience preferred
  • Teaching hospital experience preferred
  • Travel experience preferred but not required
  • No history of license disciplinary action

Additional Information

  • Provide tele, drip, and ventilator management nursing care within a team or primary nursing model depending on trial status
  • Complete an online EKG/telemetry competency assessment prior to starting the assignment
  • Fitted for N95 respirator prior to working on the HRRU unit unless PAPR is provided
  • Navy blue scrubs required
  • Lab work and EKG/dysrhythmia exam must be completed within 72 hours of signing
  • Local candidates within 50 miles are not accepted
  • Previous PERM/PRN staff or agency travelers not extended due to tenure must wait 6 months before reapplying, pending facility rehire approval
  • RTO requests must be submitted with initial application; no additional RTO will be granted after an offer is made
  • Maximum of 14 days RTO allowed per contract
  • References are not required for consideration
  • First-time travelers will be considered, though experienced travelers are preferred
