Description
American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for a Med/Surg position in a Level 2 trauma acute care setting, requiring prior travel experience and a CA RN license.
Details
- Med Surg unit in an acute care, Level 2 trauma hospital with 30 beds
- Patient population includes medical patients and post-op/surgical patients
- Patient ratio of 1 nurse to 5 patients
- 12-hour day shifts, scheduled 6:45am-7:15pm
- Every other weekend required, with 4 weekend shifts in a 4-week schedule
- First to float, including to telemetry at 1:4 ratio or between other Med Surg floors
- No ventilator or dedicated tele unit responsibilities, though portable tele boxes may be used
- Charge nurse functions as clinical supervisor and does not take patient assignments
- 2 nurse aides on days and 1 on nights
- 24/7 hospitalist, respiratory therapy, and pharmacy coverage on-site
- No IV team on-site
- Uses Cerner EMR
Requirements
- Active CA RN license (Standard or Compact) currently in hand
- BLS certification required
- Minimum 2-3 years of experience in Med Surg specialty required
- Prior travel nursing experience required
- Must be able to read and interpret telemetry rhythms and pass a dysrhythmia exam
- COVID vaccine required
- Driver's license copy required for consideration
- Two professional references required: one supervisor from within the last 12 months and one peer or supervisor from within the last 3 years, including dates of employment and rehire eligibility
Additional Information
- Provide direct nursing care to medical and post-surgical patient populations on a busy Med Surg unit
- Navy scrub color required
- One shift of floor-specific orientation provided
- Holiday coverage required as part of the facility's staff rotation schedule
- Holiday RTO requests will be considered but cannot be guaranteed
- Candidates must be team players comfortable working in a fast-paced acute care environment
- Must pass a pass/fail sterile technique test for Foley catheter insertion and central line dressing changes on the first day of orientation
- Candidates who fail testing requirements twice are ineligible for 6 months with this health system

The cafeteria is a hit and miss. Some days they have great sea food with saffron rice! Some days microwaved food :D. But there is alwaaaaays, pizza available ;)
