Description
American Traveler is hiring a Progressive Care Unit RN with medical-surgical telemetry or PCU experience for a 13-week contract at a community teaching hospital in High Point, NC.
Details
- Progressive Care/Intermediate Care Unit within a 304-bed community teaching hospital
- 4-bed unit with an average daily census of 4
- Cares for cardiac, respiratory, hemodynamic, and neurologic monitoring patients including NSTEMI/STEMI, post-cardiac intervention, EP procedures, heart failure, and post-stroke cases
- Also cares for general, vascular, and thoracic surgical patients requiring hemodynamic support and cardiac drip titration
- Manages respiratory failure patients on medium/high flow oxygen or NIPPV
- RN to patient ratio of 1:3 or 1:4 depending on interventions, with CNA support
- 12-hour day shift schedule (0700-1900), 36 hours per week
- Every other weekend (EOW) rotation required
- No on-call or call-back requirements
- Floats within the critical care division or Intermediate Care as needed
- Uses Epic EMR, Philips Intellivue monitors, Baxter IV pumps, and Omnicell medication dispensing
Requirements
- Active RN license (NC or Compact) required
- Current BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS certifications required
- Minimum 1 year of medical-surgical telemetry or progressive care experience required
- Skilled in cardiac and hemodynamic monitoring, rhythm interpretation, arterial line management, drip titration, and non-invasive ventilation care
- Experience with post-procedure site care (transradial bands, femoral sheaths, post-EP pacemaker/ICD, post-thrombectomy) preferred
- Epic EMR experience required
- Last 4 digits of SSN and full date of birth required for consideration
- At least one professional reference dated within the past year from a Supervisor, Manager, Director, or Charge RN
Additional Information
- Responsible for continuous cardiac monitoring and rhythm interpretation, with support from telemetry techs
- Supported by 24/7 respiratory therapy and hospitalist coverage, plus a Rapid Response Team
- Charge nurse support provided by ICU or CTU resource nurse
- Unit orientation includes a 36-hour first week (NTO and online CBL via Healthstream) plus a 12-hour department-specific shift with a preceptor
- Positive, team-focused culture emphasizing high-tech, high-touch care
- Royal blue scrub color required
- Free on-site parking available
- Holiday coverage required for 75% of holidays
- Clinical interview required prior to placement
- First-time travelers are welcome to apply
- Candidates must live outside a 50-mile radius of the facility to be eligible
- Previous employees must have been separated from any AHSE facility for at least 1 year following a permanent position
