Description
American Traveler is hiring an experienced ER RN for a busy trauma-level Emergency Department, requiring WA or compact RN licensure and at least 1 year of large trauma setting experience.
Details
- 13-week night shift assignment (7p-730a) in a hospital Emergency Department
- Acute care setting with 56 beds, expanding to 60-70s with hall beds
- Includes a 6-bed Fast Track area and a separate 5-bed Triage area (travelers may be trained/tested to take triage but department staff typically covers it)
- 18 beds designated within the ED for holding inpatients awaiting bed placement, managed by ER RNs with support from floating inpatient RNs
- 6 private, locked treatment rooms for psych/seclusion patients
- In-house security present
- Approximately 170-200 patients per day
- Patient ratios of 1:3, or 1:4 for lower acuity patients
- Common diagnoses include cardiac, stroke, sepsis, DKA, AMS, respiratory, abdominal pain, and mental health cases
- Support staff includes ED physicians, mid-levels, charge nurses, house supervisors, ED techs, and CNAs for 1:1 sitters
- Telemetry monitoring available with dedicated monitor techs
- Radiology located adjacent to the ED with transport support as available
- ED techs and RNs primarily perform draws, with lab assistance for difficult cases
- RTs manage ventilators, CPAP, BiPap, and other respiratory equipment, and complete ABGs
- Uses Epic EMR
- Every other weekend requirement
- Must work holidays in November/December, with possible flexibility on one of three holidays depending on unit needs
- No call or standby requirement, though extra shifts may be available
- No floating required
Requirements
- Active WA or Compact RN license required, pending licenses not accepted
- BLS, ACLS, NIHSS, PALS or ENPC, and TNCC certifications required (active only, no pending certifications)
- Minimum 2 years of RN experience required
- At least 1 year of experience in a larger trauma setting preferred
- BSN not required for this position
- Two professional references required: one supervisor reference from within the last 12 months worked, and one peer or supervisor reference from within the last 3 years worked, including employment dates and rehire eligibility
- Copy of driver's license required for consideration
Additional Information
- Manage ER holds and provide direct patient care across a wide range of emergency diagnoses
- Work closely with a full care team including physicians, mid-levels, charge nurses, house supervisors, and support staff
- Unit orientation includes 1 day of compliance training (8-10 hours) followed by a 12-hour department orientation
- Dress code allows any professional colored scrubs
- No RTO accommodated during the first full week of the assignment
- Candidates may not have been directly employed by any facility associated with the health system within the past year, though PRN employment through outside firms will be considered
