Description
American Traveler is seeking a Labor & Delivery RN for a high-risk OB unit requiring 2+ years of experience and a compact RN license in hand.
Details
- Work in the Labor and Delivery unit of a short-term acute care hospital with 418 staffed beds
- Handles high-risk obstetric patients with 200-300 births per month
- Patient ratio of 1:1
- Evening shift schedule, 3x12 hours from 15:00 to 03:00
- Requires floating to Mother/Baby Unit (MBU) and PSCU based on unit needs
- Requires floating to sister facilities within the region as needed
- On-call required on scheduled days if shifts are cancelled
- Every other weekend required
- Uses Epic for charting
Requirements
- Active compact RN license required and must be in hand at time of consideration
- Current certifications: BLS and NRP required; AWHONN Intermediate preferred
- Minimum of 2 years of recent Labor & Delivery experience required
- Skilled in IV therapy, phlebotomy, and administration of blood and blood products
- Experience assisting with high-risk and vaginal deliveries
- Experience circulating for C-sections and recovering C-section patients
- Experience with hemorrhage/shock management and sterile vaginal exams
- Experience administering antihypertensives, antiseizure medications, insulin drips, magnesium sulfate, pitocin, and terbutaline
- Experience with neonatal care in delivery room including APGAR scoring, neonatal resuscitation, and use of radiant warmers
- Experience with antepartum care procedures including NST and use of external fetal monitoring (EFM)
- Experience with postpartum care including couplet care, postpartum hemorrhage, and pregnancy-induced hypertension management
- Experience with pain management including epidural anesthesia and nitrous oxide
- Experience with newborn care including infant identification, assessment, and thermoregulation
- Must have a vehicle for this assignment
- Two supervisory references covering 1 year of employment within the last 3 years required
- Full SSN and DOB required for consideration
Additional Information
- Provide comprehensive nursing care to high-risk antepartum, labor, delivery, and postpartum patients
- Manage fetal monitoring and recognize/treat abnormal fetal heart rate patterns
- Perform newborn assessments and care immediately following delivery
- Assist with surgical procedures including D&C and tubal ligation as needed
- Support isolation precautions, PPE protocols, and vaccine administration
- Scrub color for L&D is provided by the facility
- First-time travelers are welcome to apply for this position
- Must commit to working 3 of the 5 major holidays (Thanksgiving, Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, New Year's Eve, New Year's Day)
- RTO requests must be submitted upfront during the application process, with limited flexibility post-offer
- Former permanent employees must wait at least 3 months before returning as a traveler and must not reside within 50 miles of the facility
- Local candidates accepted within a 50-mile radius at a lower bill rate
