Description
American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for a Cardiovascular ICU position requiring at least 2 years of CVICU experience and an active IL RN license.
Details
- Acute care Level 1 trauma hospital setting in the Adult Cardiac Intensive Care Unit
- 20-bed unit, all private rooms, all monitored
- Patient ratios range from 1:1 to 2:1 depending on acuity
- Patient population includes post open heart surgical patients (CABG, valves, dissections, AAA, vascular and carotid procedures), STEMI, unstable angina, N-STEMI, cardiogenic shock, cardiomyopathy, severe heart failure, TAVR, targeted temperature management, and ventilated patients
- Utilizes specialty equipment including IABPs, Impellas, Swan Ganz catheters, ECMO, external pacemakers, and CRRT
- Manages PICC, midline, CVC, Swan, and arterial lines (radial and femoral)
- RNs required to titrate multiple drips including dopamine, dobutamine, levophed, epinephrine, neo, vasopressin, cleviprex, propofol, fentanyl, versed, insulin, heparin, and esmolol
- Charge nurses and house supervisors on site 24/7
- PCT support available with ratios ranging from 1:12 to 1:15
- CV APNs/PAs and CCS APNs/PAs typically in house with provider on-call coverage
- Respiratory therapists on site 24/7 utilizing vents, CPAP, BPAP, high flow, and nitric oxide
- Philips cardiac monitoring with monitor techs available; RNs expected to read and interpret their own strips
- EPIC EMR used
- 12-hour shifts, day shift (7a-7p)
- Every other weekend required (Saturday/Sunday for day shift)
- Every other holiday required
- Floating required to all levels of care; travelers expected to take a full team assignment
Requirements
- Active IL RN license required
- BLS (AHA) certification required
- ACLS preferred, CCRN a plus
- Minimum 2 years of recent CVICU experience required
- Must be able to interpret cardiac strips independently
- Strong assessment, critical thinking, communication, and organizational skills required
- Must be able to function immediately in a fast-paced, high-acuity environment without additional training on equipment or patient population
Additional Information
- Provide direct bedside care to complex cardiovascular ICU patients, including those on multiple hemodynamic support devices and titratable drips
- Unit occasionally receives overflow ICU patients, including COVID patients, from other ICUs
- Scrubs must be clean and appropriately fitted; no specific color required and scrubs are not provided by facility
- No radius rule; local rates available for candidates within 50 miles of the facility
- COVID vaccination not required for this facility
