Description

American Traveler is hiring a Level II NICU RN for a night shift acute care position requiring recent Level II NICU experience and NRP certification.

Details

  • Level II NICU with Special Care Nursery (SCN)
  • NICU has 12 private rooms; SCN has 18 beds in 3 pod-based rooms with 6 babies each
  • Level I trauma acute care hospital setting
  • NICU nurse-to-patient ratio 2:1; SCN ratio 3:1
  • Night shift, 12-hour shifts (7p-7a)
  • 4 weekend shifts required within a 4-week schedule (Fri, Sat, Sun considered weekend for nights)
  • Self-scheduling process with scheduler balancing staff needs
  • Will float to sister facility (MGMC), but not floated out of the NICU unit itself
  • Charge nurse responsibilities occasionally based on census
  • Uses Cerner EMR
  • Uses GE monitors for telemetry
  • Works with ventilators including Puritan Bennett 840, Draeger, Vision Bipap, and V60s
  • 24/7 in-house NNP coverage and daytime neonatologist coverage
  • 24/7 respiratory therapy support managing vents
  • 24/7 pharmacy support with tube system access from adjacent L&D unit
  • No dedicated IV team or nurse aide support on unit

Requirements

  • Active AZ or Compact RN license required
  • BLS and NRP certifications required; STABLE certification preferred
  • Minimum 2 years of recent Level II NICU experience (within past 6 months)
  • Level III NICU experience preferred
  • Must pass a Sim Lab competency test for foley catheter insertion on Day 1 of orientation
  • Must reside at least 50 miles from the facility
  • Driver's license copy required for consideration

Additional Information

  • Provide high-level care for NICU patients 28 weeks gestation and above with respiratory complications requiring vents, CPAP, RAM, and Vapotherm nasal cannulas
  • Common NICU diagnoses include hyperbilirubinemia, meconium aspiration, respiratory distress syndrome, PPHN, IUGR, chorioamnionitis, PICC lines, TTN, chest tubes, passive cooling, exchange transfusions, pneumothorax, UAC/UVC lines, and sepsis
  • SCN cares for lower-acuity NICU diagnoses including CPAP support, blood transfusions, and neonatal abstinence syndrome (NAS)
  • Surgical cases and babies under 28 weeks are transferred to partner facilities
  • Floor-specific orientation includes 2 shifts with a preceptor
  • Shift huddle begins at 7am/7pm followed by bedside report
  • Holiday coverage required as part of a rotating group schedule shared with permanent staff
  • Navy scrub color required
  • First-time travelers may be considered
  • Candidates previously employed directly by CommonSpirit-affiliated facilities within the past year are not eligible
