Description

American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for a Pediatric ED position requiring 2 years of ED experience and CA licensure.

Details

  • Level I trauma center pediatric emergency department treating patients up to 25 years of age
  • High-volume, high-acuity setting with over 116K patient visits annually and seasonal winter surges
  • 3-5 triage areas with a fast track area and no designated holding unit
  • Facility never diverts patients
  • ED techs are staffed to support nursing, generally one tech per nurse and additional techs in triage
  • Nurses run their own internal codes
  • 3x12 hour shifts available in Day (0700-1900) and Night (1900-0700) rotations, with variable start times of 0700, 1100, 1400, and 1900
  • Travelers are prioritized for floating assignments

Requirements

  • Active CA RN license required in hand at time of submission; pending or temporary licenses not accepted
  • Minimum 2 years of ED experience required
  • Required certifications: ACLS, BLS, MAB, PALS
  • Prior experience in a Children's Hospital ED setting preferred and given priority consideration
  • Previous charge experience preferred
  • Two supervisor-level references required from the applicable unit, dated within 1 year of start date or from most recent employer

Additional Information

  • Provide emergency nursing care across a broad range of pediatric conditions including respiratory, GI, psychiatric, cardiovascular, neurological, and trauma cases
  • Skilled in procedures such as chest tube management, NG tube insertion, procedural sedation monitoring, and 12-lead EKG interpretation
  • Experience with pediatric dosage calculations and medication administration including vasopressors, sedatives, and antiemetics
  • Must be aware of and agreeable to facility float requirements, with travelers floated first
  • Up to 16 hours of orientation modules may be required, billable only when completed during orientation shifts
  • Maximum of 7 days RTO permitted, with none allowed during the first week of the assignment
  • Must be available to work all holidays, though manager will attempt to accommodate one holiday off on a non-guaranteed basis
  • First-time travelers are welcome to apply
  • Local candidates within 50 miles of the facility are not accepted
  • Former staff must be separated from the facility for at least 1 year before reapplying
  • Due to the merger of Rady Children's and Children's Hospital of Orange County into Rady Children's Health, clinicians marked DNR from Rady's will not be considered for this facility
