Description
American Traveler is seeking a Respiratory Therapist (RRT) for a night shift assignment at a Level II trauma teaching hospital, requiring 4+ years of experience.
Details
- Respiratory/Neuro Diagnostics unit at a teaching hospital with Trauma Level I and Level II designations
- Adult critical care and emergency department settings
- Night shift, 4x12-hour shifts (7:00 PM-7:00 AM)
- 36 or 48 hours per week
- Every other weekend and every other holiday required
- Floating required within scope of practice as needed
Requirements
- Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) certification required
- BLS required, ACLS preferred, ACCS preferred
- Minimum 4 years of experience required, though candidates with 2+ years will be considered
- Teaching hospital experience required
- Trauma Level II experience required, Trauma Level I experience preferred
- Epic EMR experience required
- BSN preferred
- VA state license required if applicable; pending license accepted provided candidate holds another state license and can obtain a temporary VA license before start
- Two professional references required
- Copies of required certifications required for consideration
Additional Information
- Manage ventilator settings including BiPAP, CPAP, SIMV, and IMV, and troubleshoot high pressure alarms
- Perform airway management including intubation and extubation assistance, suctioning, and tracheostomy care
- Administer medications via aerosol, MDI, and nebulizer delivery systems
- Draw and interpret arterial blood gases
- Care for patients with ARDS, aspiration, pneumonia, and fresh tracheostomy
- Perform chest physiotherapy and pulmonary hygiene procedures
- Assist with patient transport including inter-departmental and ambulance transport
- Maximum 40 hours of RTO per 13-week contract, with no additional RTO approved after offer acceptance
- No RTO approved around the Christmas holiday
- Any vacation time between sign date and start date must be disclosed prior to submission
- Previous UVA Health employees (permanent staff or travelers) require 1-year separation and leadership approval before returning
- External travelers cannot exceed 365 total assignment days and are not eligible to return after reaching that limit
- No prior travel experience required
