Description
American Traveler is seeking a Registered Respiratory Therapist for a night shift position at a Level I/II trauma teaching hospital requiring 4+ years of experience and RRT certification.
Details
- Respiratory therapy role within a teaching hospital critical care and emergency department setting
- Adult critical care and emergency department patient populations
- Manages ventilator patients including BiPAP, CPAP, SIMV, and weaning from mechanical ventilation
- Performs airway management including intubation/extubation assist, suctioning, and tracheostomy care
- Administers medications via nebulizer, MDI, and aerosol delivery systems
- Uses Epic EMR system
- Night shift, 4x12-hour shifts from 19:00 to 7:00
- Every other weekend required
- Must work 2 of the 3 winter holidays
- 36 or 48 hours per week
Requirements
- Current RRT certification required
- BLS certification required
- ACLS certification preferred
- ACCS certification preferred
- Minimum 4 years of experience required; candidates with 2+ years may be considered
- Teaching hospital experience required
- Trauma Level II experience required, Trauma Level I experience preferred
- Epic EMR experience required
- VA state license required, license required if applicable
- Pending VA license accepted if candidate holds another active state license and can obtain VA temporary license before start date
- Two professional references required
- BSN preferred
Additional Information
- Performs chest physiotherapy, arterial blood gas draws and interpretation, and pulmonary hygiene procedures
- Provides patient transport support including inter-departmental and ambulance transport
- Troubleshoots ventilator alarms and manages high-pressure alarm situations
- Cares for patients with ARDS, aspiration, pneumonia, and fresh tracheostomy
- Assists with bronchoscopy procedures
- Travelers must float within scope of practice as needed
- Maximum RTO of 40 hours per 13-week contract, with no additional time off approved after offer acceptance
- Any planned time off between sign date and start date must be disclosed prior to submission
- Previous UVA Health employees must have 1-year separation and leadership approval before returning as a traveler
- External travelers cannot exceed 365 total assignment days at this facility and are not eligible to return after reaching that limit
- First-time travelers not considered for this role
