Description
American Traveler is hiring an experienced Emergency Department RN for a Level 1 trauma center requiring ACLS, PALS, and TNCC certifications.
Details
- Level 1 trauma center Emergency Department with 65 all-private beds, including 2 trauma bays
- Nurse-to-patient ratio of 1:3-5, variable based on acuity and department needs
- Patient population spans newborns to the elderly with a wide range of acuities, including critically ill patients, cardiac arrests, strokes, and heart attacks
- Level 1/2 trauma patients are managed by a specialized trauma team; travelers may care for stabilized trauma patients once transferred to a pod
- Uses EPIC EMR
- 12-hour shifts, 4x12s, with day, mid, and night shift options (not rotating)
- Every other weekend rotation required (Fri/Sat or Sat/Sun depending on shift)
- Every other holiday required, negotiable based on contract
- No call or standby requirements
- Rare floating possible as a help-all to other units, not typically assigned to travelers
- ED techs present at a 1:9 ratio, along with respiratory therapists and a dedicated monitor tech
- 2 charge nurses per shift plus 24/7 house supervisor support
- Minimum of 3 attending physicians staffed at all times
Requirements
- Active IL RN license required, or proof that the application process has been initiated
- BLS, ACLS, and PALS or ENPC certification required
- TNCC or TNS certification required
- Minimum 2 years of nursing experience preferred
- At least 1 prior travel assignment preferred
- SANE RN experience preferred
- Experience at a teaching hospital with residents preferred
- Proficiency with vasopressor and cardiac drip titration required
- Ability to interpret and act on cardiac rhythms required
Additional Information
- Provide emergency department nursing care across a wide range of acuities and age groups
- Draw own labs alongside ED techs, with phlebotomy assisting for boarders at times
- Radiology staff or transport handle patient transport for X-Ray or CT
- Orient to Phillips cardiac monitors on site
- Scrubs must be tasteful with solid colored shirts underneath; no specific color required
- Local rate applies for clinicians with a permanent address within 50 miles of the facility
- No radius rule restricting eligibility
- COVID vaccination is not required for this facility
- Time off requests can be included in the contract and are reviewed for approval based on scheduling needs
- Block scheduling accommodated when possible, including options like 2 on/4 off or 6 in a row
