Description

American Traveler is hiring a Registered Nurse for a PCU/Progressive Care Unit position requiring 2 years of telemetry experience and prior travel nursing experience.

Details

• PCU/Intermediate Intensive Care unit providing 24/7 monitoring for cardiac, renal, bariatric surgery, pulmonary, and trauma patients
• 24-bed unit with a 4:1 nurse-to-patient ratio and average daily census of 24
• Predominantly adult and geriatric patient population requiring cardiac telemetry monitoring
• Focus on heart failure and pre/post-procedural cardiac patients including PCI, EP lab procedures, TAVR, Watchman device, and Mitral Clip recipients
• Night shift, 12-hour shifts from 18:45-07:15, scheduled as 3x12 (36 hours) or 4x12 (48 hours) per week
• Every other weekend required
• Some floating required to Cardiac Telemetry unit, with ratios up to 1:6 in Med Surg assignments
• Self-scheduling based on unit needs
• Uses PYXIS, Epic, and SBAR communication systems

Requirements

• Active RN license (NC or Compact) required, license pending accepted at submission
• Minimum 2 years of relevant RN experience required
• Current certifications: BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS (NIHSS preferred)
• Prior travel nursing experience required; unit does not accept first-time travelers
• Required skills: telemetry, IV starts, interpretation and management of dysrhythmias, peripheral line care, non-invasive airway management
• Post cardiac catheterization and post cardiac/vascular surgical experience required
• Epic charting experience required
• Must pass EKG testing prior to start
• Preferred skills: charge nurse experience, wound care/wound vac

Additional Information

• Provide intermediate-level cardiac monitoring, assessment, and intervention for patients with heart failure and post-procedural cardiac conditions
• Collaborate with the outpatient heart failure clinic on disease management, education, and end-of-life care
• Perform cardioversions on-unit with cardiologist and anesthesia present
• Provide patient/family education, emotional support, and safety management
• Unit orientation is 36 hours
• Scrubs required: any combination of navy and white
• Must work 2 of the 3 major holidays
• RTO of 7 days or less can be auto-approved (not on holidays); no RTO allowed during first week of assignment
• Local candidates within 50 miles accepted at a lower rate
• Travel pairs allowed if on different units and disclosed at submission
• Previous Novant Health or New Hanover employees (perm/PRN/EP) must wait 12 months before applying and disclose employment history for facility approval
• 20-week contracts available to provide coverage through the holidays
