Description
American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for a Medical Surgical unit position requiring MO or compact license and prior post-op med/surg experience.
Details
- Medical Surgical unit in a Magnet-designated, teaching, Level I Trauma Center hospital
- Post-op medical surgical patient population including bariatrics, trachs, Endo Onc, MIS, plastics, ortho, and ophthalmology cases
- Patient ratio of 1:5
- Night shift schedule, 3x12 hours (19:00-07:30)
- Every other weekend required
- Floating required within service line to meet facility needs
- No on-call responsibilities
- EPIC charting system required
- Uses Pyxis, SBAR handoff, sit/stand lift, Hoyer lift, bladder scanner, and EKG machine
- NPs on floor Monday-Friday 0700-1600 with 24-hour house staff coverage
- Phlebotomy services offered 21:00-05:30 daily
Requirements
- Active MO or compact RN license required (no issuance if tied to another compact state)
- Current BLS and ACLS certifications required
- Minimum 2 years of medical surgical RN experience required
- EPIC charting experience required
- Must pass Relias EKG exam covering interpretation and management of dysrhythmias
- Skilled in phlebotomy, IV therapy, central line blood draws, PICC line management, and peripheral line care
- Experience managing cardiac and vasoactive drips (no titration) and PCA
- Cardiac monitoring and emergency response skills required
- Teaching hospital experience preferred
- Charge nurse experience preferred
Additional Information
- Provide post-surgical nursing care with a focus on mobility and CHG baths
- RNs may be required to perform and interpret EKGs when needed, with training available
- No more than 7 days RTO permitted per 13-week contract, with no RTO allowed during the first week
- First-time travelers are welcome to apply
- Must reside outside a 75-mile radius of the facility; no local candidates accepted
- Permanent employees must wait 1 year before returning to any BJC facility as a traveler
- Standard travelers may stay up to 18 months, followed by a required 3-month break in service
- Navy blue scrubs required
- Must maintain facial hair compliant with respirator fit testing standards, or be clean-shaven
