Description
American Traveler is hiring a Registered Nurse for a Progressive Care Unit (PCU) position requiring cardiac monitoring and telemetry experience at a Level I Trauma teaching hospital.
Details
- Work in the 6 West PCU unit of an acute care teaching hospital
- Adult and geriatric patient population with high turnover
- Primary focus on chest pain management, expediting ER flow, and ruling in/out MI
- Cares for overflow patients from cardiology and medicine PCU, including occasional post-cath patients
- Uses remote telemetry monitors on the unit with tele-sitting implemented
- Day shift schedule, 3x12 hours, 6:45am-7:15pm
- Nurse-to-patient ratio typically 1:5 on day shift
- Weekend requirement of every other weekend or 6 weekend shifts per 6-week block
- Floating required within skillset
- Epic charting system used
Requirements
- Active RN or LPN license (Virginia State or Compact) required, pending license accepted only for candidates holding a single-state license from a non-compact state
- Current certifications: ACLS, BLS, and NIHSS
- Epic EMR experience required
- Skilled in cardiac monitoring and emergency response, including interpretation and management of dysrhythmias
- Experience activating Rapid Response/Code teams
- Proficient in IV therapy, phlebotomy, blood product administration, and central/peripheral line care
- Experience administering and managing cardiac drips (Cardizem, Heparin, Insulin, low-dose dopamine/dobutamine, Amiodarone, Nitro, Bumex, Lasix – no titration)
- Skilled in respiratory support including nasal cannula, oxygen delivery, and non-invasive airway management
Additional Information
- Provide cardiac and telemetry nursing care to adult and geriatric patients with high turnover
- Assist in expediting ER flow and ruling in/out MI for chest pain patients
- Facility may call off up to 1 shift per 2-week period
- Must work one holiday per 13-week contract
- All RTO requests must be submitted upfront with the application
- First-time travelers are welcome to apply
- Local candidates are accepted subject to radius rule criteria
- Previous employees (per diem or permanent) must have a minimum one-year break before returning as a traveler
- Hospital is a 703-bed acute care teaching facility and the region's only Level I Trauma Center
- Magnet-designated for nursing excellence and affiliated with a medical school
- Certified as an Advanced Thrombectomy Capable Stroke Center
