Description
American Traveler is hiring an RN-ICU/PCU Float for a Level I Trauma teaching hospital, requiring critical care experience and a VA or compact RN license.
Details
- Float position covering all ICU and PCU units, requiring comfort in both settings
- Night shift, 3x12 hours, 6:45pm-7:15am
- Epic EMR experience required
- Staffing needs reassessed every 4 hours, with potential to float 2-3 times per shift
- Weekend requirement of every-other-weekend or 6 weekend shifts within a 6-week block
- One holiday required per 13-week contract
- PCU average ratio is 5:1 and ICU average ratio is 2:1
- Facility may call off up to 1 shift per 2 weeks
Requirements
- Active VA State or Compact RN license required; single-state license from a non-compact state may be considered pending
- ACLS, BLS, and NIHSS certifications required; CPI preferred
- Minimum 2 years of ICU experience preferred
- Experience at a large Level I/II trauma facility required
- Skilled in IV therapy including arterial line management, central/PICC line care, blood product administration, and IV initiation/maintenance
- Respiratory care experience with BiPAP/CPAP management and ventilated patient care required; ventilator management preferred
- Experience with continuous IV sedation, emergency medications, and titration of cardiac and vasoactive drips
- Wound care experience with surgical wounds, drains, and wound vacs
- Cardiac monitoring skills including dysrhythmia interpretation and management; 12-lead EKG/ECG preferred
- IV insulin protocol adherence required
- Infection prevention and isolation precautions/PPE experience preferred
- Two professional references required for consideration
- PDF copies of driver's license and Social Security card required for consideration

- Work within a 703-bed acute care teaching hospital, the region's only Level I Trauma Center for both adult and pediatric patients
- Facility is Magnet-designated for nursing excellence and affiliated with an academic medical school
- Certified as an Advanced Thrombectomy Capable Stroke Center
- Previous charge experience preferred
- First-time travelers are welcome to apply
- Local candidates are not accepted
- Candidates residing 50-99.9 miles from the facility may be considered for one 13-week assignment with no extension eligibility
- Candidates residing less than 50 miles from the facility may be considered for one 13-week assignment at a lower bill rate with no extension eligibility
- Previous per diem or permanent employees must wait at least one year before returning as a traveler
- Travelers who have worked 365 days on assignment are not eligible to return, subject to facility review on a case-by-case basis
- All RTO requests must be submitted upfront with application
