Description
American Traveler is hiring an RN for a PICU role requiring 2+ years of PICU experience and a South Dakota (SD) or compact RN license.
Details
- Combined 15-bed Pediatric Unit and 5-bed PICU setting
- Cares for patients 0-18 years and stable adult overflow across General Pediatrics and PICU
- General Pediatrics patients include respiratory illness, diabetes, septicemia, cellulitis, hyperbilirubinemia, neurology, mental health, trauma, and general surgical cases
- PICU patients require critical/intensive care for respiratory insufficiency, circulatory failure, infectious disease, endocrine/metabolic disorders, neurologic disease, toxic ingestions, trauma, and hematologic/oncologic disease
- Patient ratios: 1:5 General Pediatrics; 1:1 for mechanically ventilated/titratable drip PICU patients; 1:2-3 for stable PICU patients
- CNA support available at a 1:8 ratio
- 12-hour variable shifts totaling 48 hours per week
- Every other weekend rotation required
- All holidays required
- May be placed on low census/on-call status
- Floating required to NICU (30-bed, feeder/growers, 1:3 ratio) and General Pediatrics (up to 1:5 ratio)
- Uses Epic charting system and Omnicell
- Uses Drager ventilators
Requirements
- Active RN license (SD or compact) currently in hand
- Minimum 2 years of PICU RN experience required
- Required certifications: BLS, PALS, NIHSS
- Completion of an approved nursing education program
- Proficient in physical assessment of patients ages 0 through adult
- Skilled in evaluating patient symptoms and vital signs
- Experience administering medications and educating patients/families on plan of care
- Proficient with Epic charting system
- Ability to titrate drips and care for mechanically ventilated patients
- RNs must be comfortable starting their own IVs (ultrasound available for difficult IVs) and drawing labs
Additional Information
- Charge nurse coverage is shared across both units on a free-floating basis
- 24/7 in-house hospitalist coverage; intensivist in-house during daytime with home call and 20-minute response time overnight
- Additional support includes pediatric pharmacy, pediatric social work, case management, and respiratory therapy
- Resource support includes a Nurse Clinician/Nurse Educator
- Orientation includes 1 day of facility orientation and 2-3 days of unit orientation with a preceptor across PICU, Peds, and NICU
- Time off requests only approved if submitted in advance
- Navy scrub color required
- Free parking available in the parking garage

- Must reside outside a 100-mile radius to be eligible for this position
