Description

American Traveler is hiring a Med/Surg RN for a night shift acute care position requiring an active MN RN license and prior travel experience.

Details

  • Med/Surg unit in an acute care hospital setting with 25 beds
  • Patient population includes heavy ortho post-op (hips, knees, spine, shoulder), general post-op, GYN, pneumonia, CHF, COPD, and geriatric patients with multiple comorbidities
  • Rare pediatric patients under 18 for post-op pain control monitoring overnight
  • Nurse to patient ratios of 1:4 days and 1:5 nights based on acuity
  • Night shift schedule, three 12-hour shifts weekly (7p-7a)
  • Every third weekend required (Friday, Saturday, Sunday)
  • Every third holiday required per facility rotation
  • EPIC EMR used
  • No respiratory therapist on unit; RT support available via 24-hour iPad access
  • No dedicated tele/monitor tech; RNs must be able to read own tele strips (Mindray monitors)
  • Charge RN rarely takes patient assignments and helps prepare discharges
  • 2 nurse aides per shift
  • No call or standby requirements
  • No floating requirements
  • Block scheduling allowed depending on unit needs

Requirements

  • Active MN RN license required
  • BLS and ACLS certifications required (AHA)
  • PALS certification required
  • Minimum 1 year of RN experience required
  • BSN not required for this position
  • Must be proficient in starting own IVs
  • Prior orthopedic nursing experience preferred
  • Must be able to titrate drips including Heparin (Insulin, Cardizem, Levophed, and Dopamine per manager approval)
  • At least one previous travel assignment required

Additional Information

  • Care for post-op orthopedic, GYN, and general surgical patients along with medical patients with CHF, COPD, and geriatric comorbidities
  • Manage titratable drips and monitor telemetry independently with charge nurse support as needed
  • Unit orientation consists of three 12-hour shifts, including one day shift for system and pharmacy access
  • Navy blue scrub jacket required; any color or print undershirt permitted
  • RTO requests must be submitted prior to scheduling
  • House Supervisor coverage provided on nights and weekends
