Description
American Traveler is hiring an ER RN for a 13-week night shift assignment requiring at least one year of ED experience and behavioral health skills.
Details
- Acute care Emergency Department in a comprehensive Stroke Center that receives STEMI patients
- 17 beds, flexible up to 22 with hallway beds when staffing allows
- Fast track through triage lobby, plus a separate triage area for those with triage experience
- ED holds are intermixed within the department; ED nurse serves as primary nurse
- 4 designated psych/seclusion rooms with 24/7 in-house security
- Average of 66 patients treated per day with a 1:4 nurse-to-patient ratio
- Common diagnoses include stroke, STEMI, sepsis, chest pain, psychosis, and a heavy behavioral health population; rare pediatric cases (treat and transfer)
- Common drips include insulin, cardiac, sedation, and other critical drips
- Uses EPIC EMR
- Night shift, 7p-730a, working every other weekend with holiday coverage expected
- No call, standby, or floating requirements to other units
- Travelers may float within Region I facilities (Seattle, Burien, and Federal Way, WA) if needed
- Charge nurse role may be offered to travelers, primarily at night, for those willing
Requirements
- Active WA or Compact RN license required
- Required certifications: BLS, ACLS, NIHSS, PALS
- Minimum 1 year of RN experience required
- BSN not required
- Behavioral health experience required
- Prior traveler experience with 1-2 completed assignments preferred
- EPIC EMR experience preferred
- Valid driver's license required at time of consideration
Additional Information
- Draw own labs with phlebotomy assistance available during high patient volume
- Perform breathing treatments while respiratory therapy manages ventilators, CPAP, BiPAP, and ABGs
- Monitor telemetry using Phillips monitors alongside monitor techs
- Work alongside ED techs who perform EKGs, blood sugar checks, patient monitoring setup, sitter duties, and ADLs
- X-ray and CT services available within the ED with transport handled by department staff
- One 12-hour shift of unit-specific orientation with an experienced ED RN
- Scrub color is royal blue
- Strong team culture with an emphasis on accountability, respect, and collaboration across all roles
- Manager is a former traveler with a supportive approach to travel staff
- Many travelers extend their assignments due to positive team environment
