Description
American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for a Labor & Delivery position at a Level 3 high-risk facility requiring AWHONN Advanced Fetal Monitoring certification and independent management of high-risk laboring and delivery patients.
Details
- Acute care Labor & Delivery unit with 17 L&D beds, 2 C-section OR suites, 4 triage beds, and 16 postpartum beds
- Unit averages approximately 250 births per month
- Follows AWHONN ratio guidelines: 2:1 for normal laboring patients, 1:1 for high-risk labors, 4:1 for couplet care, and 2:1-4:1 for antepartum depending on acuity
- Level 3 high-risk patient population
- Nurses circulate and recover their own C-section patients
- RNs titrate common drips including Magnesium Sulfate, Pitocin, Insulin, and Heparin
- OB/Neonatologist and Anesthesia in house 24/7
- Uses Cerner for charting and EFM system
- Night shift schedule with every other weekend required
- Floating to postpartum required as needed, with travelers first to float
- No call or standby requirement
- 36 hours per week guaranteed
- 12 hours of orientation, including 3 days of unit-specific orientation for travelers
Requirements
- Active NV RN license (Standard or Compact) currently in hand, pending licenses not accepted
- Minimum 2 years of RN experience required
- Required certifications: ACLS (AHA), BLS (AHA), AWHONN Advanced Fetal Monitoring (AFM), and NRP
- Must be independent and confident performing vaginal exams, internal monitor placement, and managing high-risk laboring, delivery, and antepartum patients
- Ability to effectively read fetal monitor strips required
- Cerner EMR experience required
- Two professional references required: one supervisor from within the last 12 months worked and one peer or supervisor from within the last 3 years worked, including dates of employment and eligibility for rehire
- Copy of driver's license required for consideration
Additional Information
- Provide direct patient care for high-risk laboring, delivery, and antepartum patients in a Level 3 facility
- Circulate and recover own C-section patients as part of daily responsibilities
- Work alongside Certified Surgical Techs and unit secretaries as ancillary staff
- Charge nurse only takes a patient assignment if the unit is at maximum capacity and no additional help is available
- Uses TEAM self-scheduling system, with schedules balanced by a scheduling committee
- Holiday coverage required as needed
- Navy blue scrubs required for dress code, with light blue OR scrubs provided for nurse use during surgical cases
- Must reside at least 50 miles from the facility to be eligible for the position
- First-time travelers may be considered for this position
- Candidates may not have been directly employed (full time, part time, or PRN) by any CommonSpirit, CHI, or Dignity Health facility within the past year; PRN employment through outside firms is acceptable
