Description
American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for an Intermediate Care/Neuro Stepdown position requiring 2+ years of experience and prior travel experience.
Details
- Intermediate Care unit specializing in neurological stepdown patients along with medical intermediate cases
- Patient ratio of 1:4 with unit census maxing at 24 patients/beds
- 12-hour night shifts, 18:45-07:15, with 36 or 48 hour schedules offered
- No on-call requirements
- Float requirement to other intermediate areas (PCTU, Cardiac Intermediate) and critical care (ICU/Stepdown) as needed
- Weekend requirement of at least 3 shifts every six weeks
- Uses Pyxis, Epic, and SBAR communication systems
Requirements
- Active RN license (NC or Compact)
- Current certifications: BLS, ACLS, NIHSS
- CCRN, TNCC, and CPI certifications preferred
- Minimum 2 years of relevant RN experience required
- Neuro stepdown/intermediate care and telemetry experience required
- Prior travel experience required; unit will not accept first-time travelers
- Epic charting experience required
- Required skills include cardiac monitoring/dysrhythmia management, TR Band, IV insulin protocols, feeding tube care, CBI, hemodialysis management, central/peripheral/PICC line care, blood product administration, heparin/PCA/thrombolytic protocols, titration of cardiac and vasoactive drips including LEVO, and management of neurological conditions such as CVA, craniotomy, TBI, and seizure disorders
- Respiratory skills required including BiPAP/CPAP, ventilator care, chest tubes, HFNC, ABG interpretation, and tracheostomy care
- Wound care/wound vac and isolation precaution skills required
Additional Information
- Provide intermediate-level nursing care to a mixed neurological and medical patient population
- Must maintain a teamwork approach and meet facility behavioral expectations in all patient and staff interactions
- Strict adherence to the unit's call-off policy is required
- Unit orientation includes 32 hours total: an 8-hour computer class plus two shifts of unit orientation after hospital orientation
- Scrubs not provided; must wear any combination of navy blue and white
- Must pass EKG testing prior to start for this specialty
- Must complete required pre-start and annual online modules
- Candidates must work 2 of the 3 major holidays
- Up to 7 days of RTO can be auto-approved if not falling on a holiday; no RTO allowed during the first week of assignment
- Travel pairs are allowed if placed on different units
- Local candidates within 50 miles accepted at a lower rate
- Former Novant Health or New Hanover employees must wait 12 months before reapplying as a traveler
