Description

American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for a Progressive Care Unit (PCU) position requiring telemetry competency and a NE or compact RN license.

Details

  • Acute care Level 1 trauma hospital setting on a 55-bed Progressive Care Unit (Stepdown level of care)
  • Adult patient population, with pediatric patients (age 15+) admitted rarely
  • RN to patient ratio of 1:4 on both day and night shifts
  • 12-hour day shifts scheduled 0630-1830
  • Every other weekend required
  • Floating required, ideally to Med-Surg areas depending on unit need
  • Uses EPIC EMR and Alaris IV pumps
  • Nursing assistant and charge nurse support available on the unit
  • Additional support staff includes educators, care managers, social workers, dietitians, PT, and OT

Requirements

  • Active RN license (NE state or Compact/NLC) required, pending licenses not accepted
  • Minimum 2 years of RN experience required
  • Current BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS certifications required, pending certifications not accepted
  • Telemetry competency required
  • Must reside at least 50 miles from the facility, verified via driver's license
  • Candidates may not have been directly employed (full time, part time, or PRN) with any CommonSpirit-affiliated facility, including CHI and/or Dignity, within the past year
  • 2 professional references required: one supervisor from within the last 12 months worked, and one peer or supervisor from within the last 3 years worked, including employment dates and rehire eligibility

Additional Information

  • Manage daily patient care responsibilities including common diagnoses such as CVA, TIA, shortness of breath, COVID, subdural hematoma, and general weakness
  • Administer common medications and drips including PCA pumps for pain management, cardizem, and insulin
  • Mechanical lifts available in every other patient room
  • Unit focus includes hourly rounding and patient responsiveness
  • Navy blue scrubs required (Ceil blue for CNAs)
  • Artificial nails are prohibited in all patient care departments; refusal to comply results in contract termination
  • RNs must pass an open-book skills exam with a minimum score of 90% during orientation or risk termination
  • Unit is described as a tight-knit team with strong staff support
