Description

American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for an Emergency Department position requiring NY licensure, ACLS/PALS/TNCC certifications, and recent Epic experience in a busy Level 3 trauma center.

Details

  • Work in a 29-bed Emergency Department with a 4-bed Behavioral Health unit and 7-bed Fast Track, all capable of swinging to ER beds
  • Level 3 trauma center treating adult and pediatric patients ranging from neonate to geriatric
  • Nurse-to-patient ratio of 1:5, sometimes higher depending on patient volume in a very busy community setting
  • 12-hour evening shift from 3:00 PM to 3:30 AM
  • Minimum every other weekend required, with schedule adjustments based on unit needs
  • Holiday coverage required, no on-call responsibilities
  • No floating required
  • Charge nurse responsibilities required
  • Uses Epic for documentation and Pyxis for medication dispensing
  • Special equipment includes Philips MP40 monitors and Alaris IV pumps
  • Respiratory therapy and anesthesia support available 24/7
  • May be responsible for boarded patients including med/surg, LTC, psychiatric, and patients awaiting admission or outsourcing

Requirements

  • Active NY RN license, or proof of pending application with applied date, required in packet at time of submission
  • AHA BLS, ACLS, and PALS certifications required
  • TNCC required, must be active or proof of class enrollment provided prior to start
  • NIHSS certification required prior to starting
  • Minimum 1 year of clinical experience required
  • Minimum 1 year of ER specialty experience required
  • Epic EMR experience within the past 2 years required and nonnegotiable
  • Charge nurse experience preferred
  • Prior travel experience preferred

Additional Information

  • Nurses manage their own IV starts, EKGs, and respiratory treatments, with IV therapy and CA II staff available for assistance
  • Medication drips are prepared by 24/7 pharmacy staff
  • Advanced practice providers typically staffed on the unit from 8a-11p
  • Support staff includes CNAs/PCTs, unit clerks, and crisis clinicians
  • Zero tolerance policy for cell phone or earbud use while working
  • Scrubs required in navy blue or white with closed-toe shoes; clean-shaven facial hair and no artificial nails
  • Orientation is 20 hours for short contracts and 24 hours for 13-week contracts
  • No block scheduling available; schedule will be posted
  • Rotating shift schedule with self-scheduling not available
  • Reliable personal or rental vehicle strongly recommended due to lack of public transportation in the area
  • Vehicles should be equipped with all-season or snow tires during winter months
