Description

American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for a Progressive Care/Stepdown Unit position requiring telemetry interpretation skills and drip titration experience on nights.

Details

  • Acute care Stepdown/PCU with 33 beds
  • Nurse:patient ratio of 1:4-5, transitioning to 1:6 in June with virtual nursing support
  • Patient population spans young adults through geriatrics with sepsis, STEMI, CHF, chest pain, COVID, stroke, renal failure, COPD, DKA, and complex multisystem cases
  • RNs required to titrate drips including Heparin, Amiodarone, Cardizem, Nitroglycerin, IV antibiotics, and Insulin
  • RNs must read and interpret their own telemetry strips
  • Uses EPIC EMR
  • RT equipment on unit includes BiPAP and Airvo
  • Charge Nurse present each shift and currently takes a patient assignment
  • CNAs available at approximately 1:10 ratio, fluctuating with census
  • 12-hour night shifts, rotating 0630-1900 and 1830-0700
  • Every other weekend requirement
  • Holiday coverage as needed to meet unit needs
  • May float to MedSurg, Inpatient Rehab, or Skilled Care
  • Unit schedulers set traveler schedules

Requirements

  • Active RN license (State or Compact/NLC) for the state of submission, pending licenses not accepted
  • BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS certifications required, active only
  • Minimum 2 years of RN experience required
  • BSN not required
  • Acute care Stepdown/PCU experience required
  • Must reside at least 50 miles from the facility, verified via driver's license
  • May not currently or previously (within the past year) be employed full time, part time, or PRN with any CommonSpirit, CHI, or Dignity facility (PRN through outside staffing firms is acceptable)
  • Two professional references required: one supervisor from within the last 12 months worked and one peer or supervisor from within the last 3 years worked, including dates of employment and rehire eligibility
  • Copy of driver's license required for consideration

Additional Information

  • Provide direct patient care in a fast-paced Stepdown unit with frequent admissions and discharges within the same shift
  • Success on this unit favors strong teamwork, a positive attitude, and commitment to bedside reporting and hourly rounding
  • Unit is transitioning to a virtual nursing model in June, with each nurse assigned their own CNA and virtual nurses assisting with admissions, discharges, education, rounding, and care plans
  • Charge Nurse will not carry a patient assignment once virtual nursing is implemented
  • Orientation includes a first week of classroom training followed by two 12-hour shifts on the floor
  • Scrub color for RNs is navy blue
  • Artificial nails are prohibited in all patient care departments; refusal to remove them results in contract termination
  • RNs must pass an open-book skills exam during orientation with a minimum score of 90% or face termination
  • Up to 7 days of RTO may be requested upfront per 13-week contract; additional RTO requests will not be approved after submission
