Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Progressive Care Unit position requiring strong drip and telemetry experience with NC or compact RN licensure required.

Details

PCU/DOU/IMC stepdown unit functioning similarly to an ICU
20-bed unit with an average daily census of 18
Patient population includes post rapid response team patients, respiratory distress, unstable hemodynamics, withdrawal, GI bleeds, and post-op GYN/GU/GI/thoracotomy/neuro/ortho surgical patients, as well as pre/post OB with complications
Patients range from adolescent to geriatric
Target ratio of 1:3-4
Night shift, 3x12-hour shifts (18:45-7:15)
36 or 48 hours per week available
Weekend requirement of every other weekend
Floating required as needed to a sister ICCU unit
Uses Pyxis and Epic systems
Bedside telemetry monitors with remote backup used
No block scheduling; schedule created by nurse manager
No ventilators on unit; only one pressor drip per patient allowed before ICU transfer

Requirements

Active RN license (NC or Compact) required
Minimum 2 years of relevant RN experience required
Required certifications: ACLS, BLS, NIHSS
Experience with arterial line management and titrating vasoactive and cardiac drips required
Experience with PCU/DOU/IMC/stepdown and telemetry care required
Skilled in interpretation and management of dysrhythmias
Experience with rapid response/code team protocols required
Experience with IV insulin protocols and heparin protocols required
Experience with blood product administration required
Experience with central line, peripheral line, and PICC line care/management required
Experience with chest tube management (Emerson/Pleur-evac) required
Experience with external CPAP/BiPAP, high flow nasal cannula, and nasal cannula required
Experience with non-invasive airway management and tracheostomy care required
Experience with isolation precautions/PPE required
IV start, telemetry, and conscious sedation experience required
Epic charting experience preferred

Additional Information

Provide advanced stepdown-level nursing care including drip titration, dysrhythmia management, and rapid response support
Must pass EKG testing prior to start for this specialty
Hospital orientation held during the first week, with mandatory daily class attendance
Scrub colors limited to navy, white, or a combination of the two
Must work 2 of 3 major holidays
RTO of 7 days or less can be auto-approved, excluding holidays, and no RTO is allowed during the first week of assignment
Additional RTO after signing is not permitted
Local candidates within 50 miles accepted at a lower pay rate
First-time travelers are welcome to apply
Travel pairs allowed if on different units and disclosed at submission
Former Novant Health or New Hanover PERM/PRN/EP employees must wait 12 months before reapplying, with facility approval required
