Description

American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for a PCU Float position requiring NJ or compact license and true float pool flexibility across multiple medical-surgical and telemetry units.

Details

  • True float pool position within an academic medical center
  • Floats between MS/Tele, MS/Tele-IMC/PCU, Neuro Stepdown, and ED holding based on skillset and unit needs
  • Patient ratios approximately 1:4+ for PCU/IMC and 1:5 for MS/Tele, varying with census and acuity
  • Night shift schedule, 3x12 hours (19:00-7:30)
  • Every other weekend required (Fri/Sat nights)
  • EPIC charting experience required
  • Navy blue scrubs required

Requirements

  • Active NJ or Compact RN license required
  • Current BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS certifications required
  • Stroke CEUs preferred
  • Minimum 2 years acute care experience required, including at least 1 year in PCU/Stepdown setting
  • Experience with IV therapy including central/peripheral/PICC line management, port access, blood product administration, and starting/maintaining IVs
  • Respiratory skills required: BiPAP/CPAP, chest tube management, HFNC, ABG interpretation, oxygen administration, and trach care
  • Experience managing GI/renal/neuro conditions including feeding tubes, pre/post hemodialysis, CVA, and pre/post neurosurgery
  • Experience managing cardiac/vasoactive drips (no titration) and heparin protocols
  • Ability to interpret and manage dysrhythmias and monitor telemetry on the unit
  • Experience with post cardiac angiogram, post MI, and pre/post cardiac cath care
  • Skilled in surgical drain care, isolation precautions/PPE, and wound care/wound vac
  • Prior charge experience preferred

Additional Information

  • Provide direct patient care across multiple medical-surgical, telemetry, and stepdown units as part of a true float pool
  • Utilize rapid response/code teams as needed for patient emergencies
  • Must work 1 of 2 or 2 of 3 holidays based on unit needs
  • First-time travelers are welcome to apply
  • Local candidates accepted at the same rate
  • Former RWJBH employees (full-time or PRN) must have been separated from the system for at least one year before returning as a travancer
