Description
American Traveler is seeking a PACU RN for a 13-week night shift assignment requiring 2 years of ICU/critical care or PACU experience and an active MD or Compact RN license.
Details
- PACU unit caring for Phase I and Phase II recovery, pre/post-operative patients
- Patient population includes general surgery, ortho, neuro/spine, vascular, urology, GI, GYN, bariatric, and thoracic surgical cases
- Typical patient ratio of 1:2
- Preferred experience with Epic charting system
- Night shift schedule, 3x12-hour shifts (1900-0730)
- Schedule includes Sunday through Friday with no Saturdays required
- Holidays required as scheduled
- May float within specialty to ICU/critical care units, including sister hospitals
- No regularly scheduled on-call shifts, though low-census on-call status may occasionally apply
Requirements
- Active RN license (MD state or Compact) required at time of consideration
- Required certifications: BLS, ACLS, and PALS (AHA only)
- CPI certification required, Calm Every Storm online version accepted
- NRP or AAP certification accepted
- Minimum 2 years of PACU, ICU, or critical care experience required
- First-time travelers considered if they have strong ICU/critical care experience
- Skilled in airway management, ventilator care, ABG interpretation, and intubation/extubation
- Experience with cardiac monitoring, arterial line management, and dysrhythmia recognition
- Proficient in IV therapy, central line care, and blood product administration
- Experience with pre/post-op care including EKG, consent, and medication reconciliation
- Familiarity with multiple anesthesia types including general, spinal, and MAC
- Charge experience preferred
Additional Information
- Provide comprehensive pre- and post-operative nursing care across a wide range of surgical specialties
- Perform patient assessments, monitor vital signs, and manage pain and sedation levels
- Support surgical recovery for procedures including orthopedic, neuro/spine, vascular, and bariatric surgeries
- Travelers are expected to float within scope as needed, with priority given to travelers
- Must reside more than 50 miles from the facility unless local candidates are otherwise accepted
- Returning staff must have a 12-month break before returning as a traveler
- Returning travelers must have at least a 6-month break from the health system before reassignment
- RTO requests must be submitted at time of offer and are limited to a maximum of 7 days
- Holiday RTO limited to one major or minor holiday during the fall/winter season
- First-time travelers are welcome to apply if they meet experience requirements
