Description
American Traveler is seeking a Registered Nurse for a Pediatric Psychiatric Unit position requiring behavioral health experience and willingness to float between adult and pediatric units.
Details
- Free-standing acute inpatient psychiatric facility with contracted ER 5 minutes away
- 94-bed unit: 50 pediatric beds and 44 adult beds
- Patients arrive medically cleared from the ED with both involuntary and voluntary admissions
- Pediatric patients ages 5-18; adult patients 18+ including geriatric
- Common pediatric diagnoses include eating disorders, depression, suicidal ideation, anxiety, schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, oppositional defiant disorder, and gender dysphoria
- Common adult diagnoses include schizophrenia, MDD, and bipolar disorder
- No forensic patients or inmates, though the unit is locked
- Seclusion rooms used when necessary; chemical restraints are not used
- RN ratios: Day 1:5-6, Night 1:13 with resource support
- Uses Cerner charting system and Pyxis medication system
- Shift schedule: 7A-7P, 12-hour shifts, 48 hours per week
- Weekend rotation every other Saturday/Sunday
- No on-call requirements, though overtime is available
- Required to float between adult and pediatric units as needed
Requirements
- Active RN license (ME State or Compact) required
- BLS certification required
- Minimum 1 year of Behavioral Health nursing experience required
- Pediatric behavioral health experience preferred
- Skills in de-escalation, physical restraint application, medication administration, and group therapy facilitation required
- Comfort with documentation and running therapeutic groups required
- Flu vaccination required for clearance to start, with medical exemptions only accepted
Additional Information
- Provide medical and psychiatric care along with specialized therapies such as pet therapy, group sessions, and community gardens
- Support staff on the unit includes DON/CNO, Nurse Manager, House Administrator, Charge Nurse, Psych Techs, contracted Phlebotomist, Nurse Practitioner, Psychiatrist, and Occupational Therapist
- MOAB certification obtained on-site as part of orientation
- Orientation includes one week of day shifts followed by a second week on the contracted shift
- Modified self-scheduling process with predetermined weekend rotation
- Holiday coverage expected in rotation
- Scrubs must be any solid, professional color
- Free parking available on-site
- Heavy snow conditions expected during winter months
- First-time travelers are welcome to apply
- Candidates must not have prior permanent employment history with any Northern Light Health Hospital
- Radius requirement: permanent address must be 100+ miles south/southwest of the facility for consideration
