Description

American Traveler is hiring an experienced ICU RN with a CA license and Level I Trauma experience for a Day shift position requiring travel experience and specialized critical care skills.

Details

  • Work in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of a Level I Trauma hospital
  • Day shift, 3x12-hour shifts, 7:00 AM to 7:30 PM
  • Patient ratio of 1:2
  • Home base unit, with potential to float to like units or lower acuity units (excluding the ED) across the organization's 5 hospitals based on census
  • Float requirements include floating at or below skillset
  • Uses Epic EMR system
  • Block scheduling for Fri/Sat/Sun may be considered if needed
  • Required to work 4 weekend shifts in a 4-week cycle
  • Required to work at least one holiday, including the holiday weekend

Requirements

  • Active CA RN license in hand at time of consideration (Temporary or Permanent, no EMSA)
  • Current AHA certifications: ACLS, BLS, and NIHSS
  • TNCC certification preferred
  • 2+ years of ICU-specific experience, with experience within the past year in an ICU setting
  • Travel experience required
  • Epic or combined Epic/Cerner charting experience within the last 6 months
  • Teaching hospital experience preferred
  • Community hospital experience preferred
  • Level I Trauma experience required
  • Skills required include IV therapy, arterial line management, central/PICC line management, blood product administration, and port access/management
  • Respiratory skills required including ventilator management, BiPAP/CPAP, ABG interpretation, and suctioning
  • Cardiovascular skills required including CVP monitoring, cardiac cath care, and sheath removal
  • Renal skills required including CRRT/CVVHD and management of acute/chronic renal failure
  • Medication management skills required including titration of vasoactive/cardiac drips, continuous sedation, and paralytics
  • Neurological skills required including ICP monitoring, EVD, post-craniotomy care, and stroke management
  • Skills in dysrhythmia interpretation and management, EKG/ECG acquisition, and IV insulin protocols required
  • 1 supervisory-level professional reference required
  • Valid copies of all required certifications required for consideration

Additional Information

  • Provide critical care nursing to medical, surgical, neuro, and trauma ICU patient populations
  • Care for patients with multisystem organ dysfunction or failure
  • Support infection prevention practices including isolation precautions and PPE use
  • No locals within a 100-mile radius are eligible for consideration, except LVNs/MAs
  • Candidates on assignment in San Diego for 9+ months or longer are considered local and not eligible
  • First-time travelers will not be considered for this position
  • Returning staff and travelers may reapply after a 1-year separation
  • Maximum 7 days of requested time off (RTO), with no additional RTO requests accepted after consideration
