Description

American Traveler is hiring an experienced Emergency Department RN for a 25-bed critical access facility, requiring prior travel assignment experience and 2+ years of ED experience.

Details

• Work in a 10-14 bed Emergency Department within a 25-bed Critical Access facility, Trauma Level IV
• Patient population ranges from newborn to geriatric (0-100+)
• Nurse to patient ratio of 1:4
• Staffing includes 3-4 RNs per shift, an ED tech 24/7, and a charge nurse assigned 24/7
• One MD scheduled 24 hours with mid-level (PA/NP) coverage from 0930-2130
• No interventional radiology or cath lab onsite; STEMI, stroke, and trauma patients transported to higher level of care
• Utilizes Telemedicine and Telestroke consultations through UVMMC
• Uses Epic for documentation and Pyxis for medication management
• Special equipment includes Alaris IV pumps, Phillips monitors, and Ranger blood warmer
• 12-hour night shift schedule, 36 hours per week, 7:00 PM - 7:30 AM
• No floating required, but ability to float to Med-Surg is highly preferred
• Minimum every other weekend required, with schedule flexibility to meet unit needs
• Must be flexible to work 2 of the 4 major holidays: Thanksgiving, Christmas, Christmas Eve, and New Year's Day
• Bi-weekly orientations held on Mondays

Requirements

• Active VT or Compact RN license required (VT licensure application must be initiated promptly if not already held)
• Required certifications: AHA BLS, AHA ACLS, AHA PALS, ENPC, NRP, NIHSS, and TNCC
• Proof of TNCC completion or enrollment with date applied must be provided, and NIHSS certification required prior to start
• Minimum 2 years of ED clinical experience required
• Prior travel nursing experience required, with at least 1 completed travel assignment
• Epic EMR experience within the past 2 years required
• Charge nurse experience preferred
• Comfort with precepting new nurses and willingness to perform ambulance transports preferred
• Experience in a Critical Access Hospital (CAH) or rural ED setting is a plus

Additional Information

• Perform ED nursing duties including ESI triage, IV insertion, drips/infusions, EKGs, restraint application, procedural sedation, and ambulance transports
• Manager/supervisor available on-call during off hours for support
• Reliable personal transportation is strongly recommended, as public transportation is not accessible in this area
• Vehicles should be equipped with all-season or snow tires during November through April
• Employment gaps over 90 days must be explained
• No block scheduling permitted under any circumstances
