Description

American Traveler is hiring a night-shift RN for a Med/Surg Telemetry unit requiring 2+ years of acute care experience and active ACLS, BLS, and NIHSS certifications.

Details

• Acute care Med/Surg Telemetry unit divided into a 14-bed '300 unit' and a 44-bed main unit
• 300 unit cares for surgical, ortho, and medical patients who may require heparin drips
• Main unit is more cardiac-focused, stepdown acuity including post cath, post pacemaker, post PCI, TAVR, CABG, sepsis, and respiratory distress patients
• Patient ratio of 1:4
• Uses Cerner EMR
• 12-hour night shifts from 6p-6a
• Every other weekend required (4 weekend shifts in a 4-week schedule)
• Must float between the 300 unit and the main unit
• No charge nurse on this unit
• Nurse aide support varies by shift (1 on nights, 1 on mid-shift, 3-4 on days)
• Philips telemetry monitoring with dedicated monitor tech support
• RNs are responsible for reading their own strips
• Respiratory Therapy available 24/7; Pharmacy available with after-hours support via satellite pharmacy after 10pm
• Hospitalist or Intensivist on call after hours
• No IV Team on unit

Requirements

• Active CA RN license required
• BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS certifications required
• Minimum 2 years of RN experience required
• Acute care hospital experience required
• Experience with cardiac drips including amiodarone, heparin, cardizem, fixed-rate insulin, nitro, and dopamine (renal dosing)
• Cerner EMR experience preferred
• Copy of driver's license required for consideration
• Two professional references required: one supervisor from within the last 12 months and one peer or supervisor from within the last 3 years, including employment dates and rehire eligibility

Additional Information

• Provide direct patient care to a stepdown/telemetry cardiac and medical-surgical patient population
• Receive 6 hours of unit-specific orientation
• Navy scrub color required
• Holiday coverage required as part of the standard staff rotation
• No ventilator management required, though BiPAP or CPAP use may occur
• First-time travelers may be considered for this role
