Description

American Traveler is hiring an ICU/Stepdown RN for a 13-week night shift assignment requiring 2+ years of critical care experience and strong vasoactive drip management skills.

Details

• ICU stepdown unit functioning similarly to a full ICU with 20 beds and an ADC of 18
• Patient population includes post rapid response team patients, respiratory distress, unstable hemodynamics, withdrawal, GI bleeds, and post-op GYN, GU, GI, thoracotomy, neuro, and ortho surgical patients
• Also cares for pre/post OB patients with complications including Pitocin administration
• Patients range from adolescent to geriatric
• Target patient ratio of 1:3-4
• Night shift schedule with 12-hour shifts from 18:45-7:15
• 36 or 48 hours per week available
• Every other weekend required
• Floating required as needed to a sister ICCU unit
• Only one pressor drip per patient is managed on this unit; additional pressors require ICU transfer
• Manages drips including Cardizem, Nitro, Precedex, Cardene, Levophed, Dopamine, Dobutamine, and Neo
• Uses bedside telemetry monitors with remote backup
• Unit does not have ventilators but does manage A-lines, BiPAP, chest tubes, and tracheostomies
• Utilizes Pyxis and Epic systems
• No block scheduling; schedule created by nurse manager

Requirements

• Active NC or Compact RN license required
• BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS certifications required
• Minimum 2 years of relevant RN experience required
• Experience with arterial lines and titrating vasoactive and cardiac drips required
• Experience in PCU/DOU/IMC/Stepdown and Telemetry settings required
• Skilled in interpretation and management of dysrhythmias
• Experience with Rapid Response/Code teams required
• Proficient in IV insulin protocols, blood product administration, and heparin protocols
• Central line, peripheral line, and PICC line care/management experience required
• Experience managing chest tubes (Emerson/Pleur-evac), external CPAP/BiPAP, high flow nasal cannula, and nasal cannula required
• Skilled in non-invasive airway management and tracheostomy care/management
• Isolation precautions/PPE experience required
• IV start, telemetry, and conscious sedation experience required
• Epic charting experience preferred

Additional Information

• Responsible for recognizing and treating dysrhythmias using bedside telemetry monitoring
• Must be able to attend hospital orientation classes each day during the first week
• Must pass EKG testing prior to start for this specialty
• Scrub colors required: navy, white, or a combination of the two
• First-time travelers are welcome to apply
• Local candidates within 50 miles accepted at a lower rate
• Former Novant Health or New Hanover PERM/PRN/EP employees must wait 12 months before applying, with hospital name and dates of employment disclosed and facility approval required
• Current travel per diem clinicians must choose between per diem or travel contract status
• Up to 7 days of RTO can be auto-approved if not falling on a holiday; no RTO allowed during the first week of assignment
• Must work 2 of 3 major holidays
• Travel pairs allowed if on different units with separate transportation and schedules
• No block scheduling permitted
